Any thoughts?

Hi all, I have IBS-C never goes away, I'm used to not going to the toilet very well every day, feeling bloated all the time, for the last twenty years. Last year I lost a close relative, I was so distraught, also busy organising the funeral etc did'nt really think about my stomach issues. A strange thing happened, that I started going toilet " like normal " for about four weeks, then the constipation returned and has been the same since. Any one have any thoughts as to why I could go toilet for those weeks, but not the last 20 yrs and again after.

Hi there!

I’ve had IBS for over 10 years (but digestive issues all of my life, nonetheless). I would miss work/school because the pains were unbearable. After seeing many doctors , reading online and changing my diet quite a bit, I FEEL WAYYY BETTER NOW! I can honestly suggest some great remedies that have helped me out. First and foremost, make sure you don’t have food sensitivities like lactose intolerance which can contribute to IBS. I am lactose intolerant so I cut out dairy; except for kefir which actually helps IBS.

Here’s a list of great natural remedies that have helped me:

#1 eat healthy and drink tons of water. Cut out the fast food and eat more veggies and fruit (think apples and pears) . Result= you’ll start seeing the bathroom on a regular basis and it won’t be a struggle

#2 probiotics, to be exact, KEFIR !! This has done wonders for my stomach. Better than TUMS or Pepto ( especially those people that wake up nauseas for no reason, like I used to) . Drink Kefir regularly and you’ll feel way better. And definitely invest in some great quality probiotics

#3 lemon water: squeeze half of a lemons juice into lukewarm water, stir and drink. (preferably drink in the morning to get your stomach moving) this will usually send you to the bathroom soon, so be prepared to go

#4 Apple Cider Vinegar: put about a teaspoon in a bottled water and drink up. ACV has probiotics that promotes good gut bacteria and relieves constipation ( pretty much the same result as lemon water)

#5 pills can help: heathers tummy tamers peppermint oil pills helps with IBS symptoms ( shop for it at helpforIBS.com, there’s other great IBS products there too)

Hope this information helps!

Hi Missunnyfl, thank you for your reply. I do most of your suggestions apart from the Kefir and heathers tummy tampers peppermint oil pills. I do eat really healthily, try and stick to low FODMAP foods. I am pleased you are feeling much better. I do enjoy milk so I use Lacto free. Thank you again for your informative post, it will also help many others 🤗

Hi bigbunbun3, I recognise this pattern myself - and I wonder if when you were so preoccupied and couldn't feed worry thoughts about your constipation, the body just got on with doing it's job, because basically there's nothing wrong with you except tension from over worrying. Too much thinking leads to tension, anticipation of problems and stress and the body responds by tightening up. I'm convinced relaxation is the cure but it requires consistent effort and patience to get results. Like you I've had some periods where 'out of the blue' my insides revert to working normally and then the constipation/spastic colon (in my case) returns and I get a bit fixated on it. What your experience tells you is that your body knows how to function normally and you just need to get yourself out of the way! As I said - easier said than done - but you know it can be done. Good luck - I'm working on this very same issue myself....
