Anal manometry - can I be sedated?

I'm due to have an anal manometry test next Wednesday and am feeling really nervous about it now.

Does anyone know if I can ask to be sedated for this procedure? I cant find much information online about it - a lot of websites don't mention sedation at all but I have seen that as an option in a couple of places and on most websites about this test for children.

Thanks in advance!

I have had this procedure, there is no pain or discomfort involved really. It can be rather embarrassing, it's all over pretty quickly. Best of luck

Hi,

I had this procedure some years ago and it was very easy, no pain. It was just a slightly strange feeling like I had a full bowel. It didn’t take long and it told the medics exactly what was wrong with me. I then had a small operation a few weeks later which was the best thing ever, so please don’t worry about it, I’m sure you will be fine and surprised how painless and easy it is. Best wishes.
