I was visiting a friend who had had an eye operation. I made our teas and noticed her ordinary milk was 12 days old but smelled ok. She has soya milk. Within an hour I had diarrhoea 3 times, came home went again, and next morning! Never reacted to milk before. I was amazed as the milk did smell ok but a friend who was a nurse said it would have been the cause. The milk had been used the day before by another of her friends without any affect. On next visit will take my herbal tea!

Soya milk is a tricky one. It can go bad in a matter of hours and if you're not used to it you won't fins it smells differently (meaning it's gone bad, although the smell itself isn't bad). Next thing you know, when it goes really really bad, it looks like glue!
If you have IBS is also a lot more likely that you'll have a bad reaction than other people.
Since soya is usually an GMO, I'd recommend you to stay away from it as much as you can. Other alternative milks are a lot better for you: almond, hemp, coconut amongst them
Hope this helps!

That would most certainly have been the milk. I will let mine go a day over if it smells okay but will then throw it away, I'd rather waste it than be poorly.
I did not want to make a fuss as her visitor the day before had drank it, will not use it if out of date again. Could not believe how severe the reaction was, worse than other foods I am allergic and intolerant to. I have tried hemp did not get on with it so use goats milk at home as reduced my intake of dairy 3 years ago following hospital dietician advice.
It is difficult when visiting people sometimes and they have something that you can't drink/eat or have drunk/eaten and then had a very bad reaction like you have, you certainly wouldn't want to say anything otherwise they would feel awful. Agree with your idea in your post in that you will take herbal tea next time.
