I'm looking at Kefir online in Tesco...are they the same or is there a particular brand I should look at?

Thanks

Tesco Kefir is good. It's made with cows milk ( not goat). Tastes fine. It's not Tesco own brand.

You'll find it in the aisle with the Polish drinks / cold foods.

Perfect. Thank you! Have you ever mixed it with a smoothie? Or is it best to have it on its own?

I love the taste of it so I drank it on its own. No reason why you wouldn’t make a smoothie, sounds good.

Buttermilk is yummy and good for the gut as well.

Hi I have been taking Kefir for 5 months and have found it has helped with my symptoms of IBS. I tried the cows milk Kefir at first but as I am lactose intollerant it was not good for me. I then tried Kefir from Chuckling goat which is made from goats milk and this is what I have been taking. They have a website and you can order on line.

Thank you for your reply. If you don't mind me asking - which form of IBS you have?

I think I'm ok with cows milk - I haven't found any foods that actually bug me. I just get cramps and diarrhoea and was hoping that a general better diet and some good kefir would help.

Have you had a test for lactose or gluten (mostly wheat) - both can cause problems. Worth testing at the docs as I found that cutting cows milk for a week or two to test it and having coconut milk helped me considerably. You have to be having these foods until you have the test though for them to show up as problems. Also have you kept a food diary that helps too as you may find the cramp diarrhea is linked to something although it may react a day or two later.

Thanks for your reply. I've kept a food diary and cut out loads of foods for a couple of months and nothing changed. I started to take "the pill" again which seemed to help so think my issue could be more hormonal. I'm having other tests done with gp regarding that.

I've just heard a lot of good reviews about Kefir and hoped that it could help

I make my own Kefir using goats milk, whole goats milk from Tesco. It helped me a lot.

After a few months of having it for breakfast every day I am no longer lactose intolerant.

I wanted to try some pre made stuff before I try making my own but will look into doing this in the future

I bought Kefir today from Asda, but have no idea which type of milk it is as its written in Polish lol by the smell of it it could be goats milk, and a bit of an acquired taste

Does it depend on how much you drink of it?

I have ibs d and don't really fancy any more of a rush lol

I have IBS C + D so dont over do it as it can clear you out within minutes lol I now drink quarter of a bottle (I buy from Asda) in the afternoon which usually gives me the loo rush first thing in the morning, apparently you start small and build up according to my friend, which was my first mistake when I drank half the bottle. She advised morning and evening small amount but I as stated did it in the afternoon. You also need to have a break from it after taking it for a while, but it live bacteria and supposedly good for the gut flora. Even Doctors have been recommending it.
