Pressure in bowel and Movicol dosage

Since taking Movicol for slow transit and frequent impactions I am suffering with huge pressure in my bowel PLUS I cannot get the dosage of Movicol right even reducing/increasing by half a sachet. What actually happens is 6/7th day I pass six to eight huge motions in a short space of time ,takes a few days for my stomach to settle down and then I start all over again trying to get the dosage right. This has been going on for a year now impacting my whole life and although seeing a consultant he is hell bent on continueing this regime .Does anybody else find long term use of movicol causes both pressure and bulks up their stool too much with no control when and where this happens .

Hi, sorry to hear that. I also tried movicol but had to stop taking it because I would have to go to the toilet urgently multiple times a day. I tried different doses (once a day, twice a day, once every 2 days) but still had the urgency and often couldn't leave the house. I would suggest trying a different laxative (although unfortunately I haven't found one that works for me yet but everyone's different).

Hi, posted similar on another thread so hope it's of some use. I've been taking Laxido (exact same as Movicol and taken that previously too) and like you struggled to find the right balance with taking too much causing diarrhea then waiting for my stomach to settle and too little and having pain in my bottom right abdomen where it felt the bulk up kept happening (and still does). What's worked for me is as soon I feel a bulk up coming on taking 2 satchets the first day and continuing them with 1 a day for another 3/4 days. I'll give them a break then for a couple of days and then take another one miss a day, take one, miss a day until I feel my stomachs cleared, but so it's not being overwhelmed by it everyday, then stop them all together for a few days.

Along this I got prescribed taking 6 peppermint oils a day and been taking alflorex probiotics and this has somewhat eased some issues I was having and found that I've had an increased appetite, passing wind more often and not as bogged down.

Still get the usual ibs pains and when constipation starts that's when I start the Laxido cycle.

I'd say listen to your own body, sometimes you have to override what the GP's say (unless obviously it's life threatening) to try seeing what works for you as in this scenario they know as much as you to what works for your body.

Hope you get some aid and better weeks ahead.
