Years ago I started out with diarrhea type IBS...then for a few years it just 'went away'... Now my body has decided (at the interesting ol' age of 79) to play with Constipation!! I drink plenty 'eat right' and all that jolly stuff...but as we know, that doesn't always work...
ANYWAY...I was wondering if any of you had a 'magic tricks' that work... the dr suggested I take a full dose of Miralax everyday...but the stuff makes me sickish...(upset stomach) however, I've tried 1 level teaspoon (only) every day and it seems to 'work' ok... I've been doing some reading that Miralax can be dangerous in that it can decrease proper functioning of your mind... Have ANY of you heard this or KNOW of this... Or does anyone here take Miralax successfully... I would really and truly appreciate hearing from some of you. Thanks!! Any other ideas you have that 'work' I'd love to hear of it!!

Done everything...miralax I agree is not good for u, and made me yuckier!.
Mago7 by aerobic life, has changed my life, you need to find ur own tolerance...I have never looked back. Please take the time to study, read reviews, ...Amazon, every vitamin store on net, or the Vitamin Shoppe. I am awaiting to take mine soon, no cramps, no chemicals, can safely use daily, ...best thing I have found. I think something happens to women, as my body just changed too? But believe me this is a true gift from God!
My best!...start out slow! As it really works, ...you go in AM, usually soon after waking, usually twice, ur done....again start out slow...I split capsules and u can add them to water, or buy the powder. I prefer the capsules, more control so I exactly know what I am taking.
There is something called Laxido, it is in sachets that you mix with water. I have been using that with some success, not perfect but better than lactulose which has also been recommended by doctor, as this causes more gas. Also linseed or flax (milled) you can buy easy and put on cereals etc.
I agree with casares8, I use laxido every day only one sachet and does help a lot, tried lactulose and ended up with terrible stomach pains, originally started off with senna tablets but wasn't strong enough.
Until 22 months ago, i managed my lifelong IBS-C-like signs & symptoms via a high fibre low FODMAP diet. gradually over the decades, i became reactive to more types of fruit & veg. Finally a really bad gastro constipation flare started 22 months ago. The NHS tried me on the osmotic laxative movicol, which totally disagreed with me. Then i was prescribed an ultra low fibre diet + methylcellulose (Celevac: an insoluble nonfermentable bulking agent) tabs + Ortis cubes as stimulant. Also daily antibiotics cured gastritis due to slow dysmotility-related bowel bacteria overflow. This treatment plan is helping me greatly. I'm 63 and have a lot of comorbidities (immune dysfunction + connective tissue disorder)
Your problems sound very similar to mine and I'm looking for a solution. Celevac contains lactose and ortis cubes contain figs both of which are Fodmaps. Do these not upset you? Certainly laxido as I was prescribed was awful. I felt more ill after taking that than ever!
After badly reacting to movicol, no way would i try laxido
gradually over the decades my immune dysfunction seems to have been turning the tables on my food tolerances....my univ hospital's gastroenterology nutrition & dietetics clinic suspects i have MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) so they have referred me to allergy clinic for investigations. I have Ehlers Danlos hypermobility + infant onset lupus & early onset Sjogrens + Hypogammaglobulinaemia.
I simply am amazed at the FODMAPS i'm tolerating at the mo: (i continue to cope well with red meat, fowl, fish, eggs...these must be well done, not rare) small amounts of almonds, brazils, walnuts....also tiny bits of raisins, dried figs & dates...Otherwise, no fruit & veg (beans of all kinds are especially bad) except peeled potatoes, white rice, oats, white flower, a bit of spelt. Some of these last foodstuffs i've had to avoid all my life! Am ok on dairy so long as in sensible quantities. I've always been able to tolerate things like manuka honey & wine in relatively small quantities...thank goodness these are still ok for me
Back in mid March 2017, when i had told him how badly movicol trials had affected me, over the past 6 months, my colorectal surgeon recommended this ultra low fibre diet + celevac (only 2 tabs with lots of water a.m. & 2 p.m.) + ortis cubes (only 1/2 cube before bed with lots of water). I can't find words to say what a relief it was when this combination began to help me!
