I'm the same. It's so awful. Too little fibre, too much fibre, it's a constant concern. I made myself ill with too much, but still under the recommended daily intake. I used to eat lots of prunes but they caused so much embarrassing wind. I now drink a glass of prune juice most days. It's help to keep things moving. But still feel 'backed up'.
Wish I had the answer.
Hi im sorry to hear that you are suffering too,i also have terrible anxiety which doesnt help.
I tried tomato juice but it went straight through me so the doctor told me eat sliced tomatoes insteadits the feeling of fullness all the time that gets me down,im taking Buscopan but doesnt seem to do much and diazepam for my anxiety.
This is something i wouldnt wish on anyone.
l worry everyday if l am going to have a bowel movement or not. A lot of days l
do not have one, then l start crying because l then worry if something is wrong with me?
l eat very little to none most days because of the IBS. l am really tired of doctors when they tell me the test said nothing is wrong! EAT!! l am glad about the test nothing being found but where in this world is the happy medium????
Annie I have been there. Now I think about it this began about age 14 and the doctors thought I was anorexic as I was too scared to eat as my stomach got upset. I have lost loads then gained loads of weight through easting starchy bad things as they clogged me up which was the less of 2 evils! I must admit I have not tired this FODMAP diet as my doctor didn't mention it and I find I can eat same thing on 2 days and have different reactions but maybe woll work for you. I understand thr anxiety and depression worrying about this causes I have been there.
You need to take a high amount of magnesium citrate or oxide. About 800 to 1200mg. I have had Ibs c almost my whole life and am now in my fifties. This is the best natural supplement to take for this condition and I have tried many. Even my consultant recommended it. I take it every day. You must take it on an empty stomach just before bed with lots of water. I would start with a high dose initially just to clear you out. Even if it means taking a few capsules. I sometimes take 6 200mg capsules. Capsules are the best not tablets and it has to be citrate or oxide as these are the ones that work for constipation. There is a lot of information about constipation and magnesium on the internet. There is a site called Ibs tales that discusses this. The ones I take are either Now foods Magnesium citrate, Solgar Magnesium Citrate or Life extensions. I get mine from the US on a site called iHerb, but you can get them on Amazon. There are other magnesium oxide products specifically for colon cleansing called Mag 07, Colosan and Oxypowder. They are a bit expensive but are amazing. I use these in between. No cramps no bloating, just relief. You can get these on Amazon as well. Don't suffer any longer. By the way I also follow a low fodmap diet through a dietician but this alone does not help constipation. Let me know how you get on.
Hi Pat, I'm glad that someone has posted about IBS C on here as it seems to be mainly IBS D, which I have to say I think is much worse. I will have a look at the tablets you take as I have tried Fibre gel before and it does nothing as does any other off the shelf laxative. I am also in my fifties and have had this condition since my thirties so luckily not my whole life.
I'm glad that these work for you and that the low fodmap diet also helps.
Glad to see a post about others that actually suffer with IBS C as nearly everyone on here gets IBS D and what affects them wouldn't necessarily affect me. I can't eat broccoli, cauliflower, sweetcorn and raw onions (both sweetcorn and raw onions give me immense pain). I had a Colonoscopy in August last year (my first one was back in 1996/7 that was when I was first diagnosed) and the pre diet I had to follow i.e. low fibre, made me feel so much better but unfortunately I didn't like the diet as there was no fibre. Luckily I can eat cooked carrots, used to love raw but can't eat those either, runner beans, sweet potato and parsnips but not much else.
They tell you to eat fibre but with this condition is almost impossible.
I have just bought Windeze gel capsules (the tablets don't work for me) for the stomach cramps as Buscupan hardly has any affect now.
I am about to embark on going dairy free, I should have done this ages ago but really haven't had time to look at my diet because of work but I am leaving at the end of next month - semi retirement - so I will have a lot more time. I am also going to have a look at the FODMAPS diet.
Best of luck to you
Just having a bad time at the moment i took some fybogel yesterday and my stomach cramps are crippling me so i have had to go to bed,i even thought about going to hospital i feel so bad,i certainly wont be taking anymore.
Has any of you tried the psyllium husk as this has worked wonders for me (Ibs d) and my friend (Ibs c) I stir in a spoonful in a glass of orange or yogurt In a morning followed by a full glass of water and it bulls inside you and keeps you regular whichever Ibs you have
