Hi do you get enough exercise and have you tried a desert spoon of OLIVE OIL on salad every day. My friend swears by it also you can get suppositories from Body Care or any chemist and they are cheep to buy.

I have chronic constipation. I have been to private consultant and had the tests done. There are two new drugs that you can get on the NHS called Prucalopride and Linaclotide. The don't work like traditional laxatives, they work on the receptors in the stomach. They should give it to you if nothing else works. It is on the NICE guidelines and you should say this to your doctor. What I take now is about 600 to 1000mg of magnesium citrate or oxide on an empty stomach before bed with lots of water. This works great, naturally and is effective. My colorectal consultant recommended it as well. Look up information on magnesium and constipation. If I don't take it I don't go.

There are other magnesium products for the colon that are excellent although more expensive but worth it. They are in order of my preference, Oxypowder, Aerobic Mag07 and Colosan. You can get them on Amazon or a place called the Finchley clinic. They are very helpful and you can call for advice. Hope this helps.

Could be the right advice. Mini enemas can be very effective for treating acute constipation in conjunction with lactulose.

Have you tried magnesium? sickofibs.com/ibs-symptoms/...

Your constipation is probably due to gut bacteria problems. When you have too little beneficial bacteria and too much bad bacteria it mucks up your bowels, and causes constipation. Read up on how to restore gut flora and this may help

I notice that nobody has mentioned that your diet needs analysing. To kick start your stool deposit you might like to try Syrup of Figs, it's an old remedy that seems to have been forgotten; a desserspoon twice a day after meals. You can increase the dose as it's a perefectly natural remedy. Personally I am against medication until the cause has been diagnosed. The doctors of today don't seem to have time to ask a simple question, "When did it start?"

The first things to consider are; avoid sugar, avoid sugary drinks, Coca Cola especially even if it's a no sugar variety as the chemical sweeteners are worse. Try a little organic wheat bran sprinkled over your food; I know a doctor who prescribes this to post-operative patients for the same reason. Avoid white bread, white cakes, white biscuits and eat only 100% wholemeal bread, even make your own. The bran in wholemeal flour has gums in it which are good for bowel action that's why it was put there but the bakers remove it to make their job easier especially in factory made bread.

I would say that you need professional advice as your doctor is not doing anything and your condition could become SERIOUS. See if you can find a homeopathic doctor not a homeopath, as they will have time to discover the cause of your problem. If you know the cause you will know how to treat it.

You would do well to read the article at: healthscams.org.uk/constipa... to see what complications can occur.

I hope I have helped. Tibbly.
