I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the end of last year after years of suffering IBS symptoms.
I have found the IBD team at my local hospital absolutely excellent. If I have a query I can call, leave a message and they will call back same day to help.
I have just finished my steroid course and now on another medication longer term. Whilst I wasn't keen on taking steroids they really have got my symptoms under control.
I found it helpful to join Crohn's and Colitis UK. Only £15 and you get lots of helpful information plus a "can't wait" card and a radar key. Also they have a forum on Healthunlocked where you can ask questions.
I hope you get the support you need. At least you now have a diagnosis which I have found has meant better medical care.
i agree with tanyamm: you'll meet a great group of people on the HealthUnlocked Crohns & colitis UK community forum here. they'll be the best able to discuss your diagnosis & treatment process. my husband was diagnosed with crohns at uni way back in the 1970s. he spent 30 years on daily steroids and had several bowel resection ops, but managed to finish his studies, get married, have a great career and is now in remission during a very happy active retirement. am wishing you every best wish...it's a great thing you've been diagnosed and are going to get the treatment you really need
