Wouldnt have thought it was connected.

Would suggest you see a dr to rule out any nasties but it could just be lack of lubricant.

Never heard of anything like that being connected to Ibs and I have had it for 22yrs. Sex can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable if you're having a flare up or are constipated as your tummy is usually sore but nothing like what you have. Sounds like possible infection to me so I agree with Lisahelen and suggest you go see your GP to discuss asap. Hope u get sorted.

Hello, I am new on here, I have been having IBS for seven years now, I also experience the same thing, hope someone will be able to help

You need to see your doctor - don't think it's IBS related

The stinging sensation sounds like cystitis and this is more common in people with IBS. I get this sometimes and also pain higher up during sex, which I put down to my gut being so bloated and tender. It might be worth checking with your doctor though just in case. Sometimes conditions like endometriosis can be misdiagnosed as IBS as the symptoms are similar.

I have the same. I have been diagnosed with a type of bowel prolapse and rectocele and told that this is the cause of painful sex.

My consultant takes both the bowel problem and 'gynae' problem into account.

What is the cause of your ibs? Of course you could have cystitis as well, or the 'cystitis' might be caused by a cystocele.

Good luck.

I too doubt that a "stinging pain" would be related to IBS. What is your age? Painful sex can be a result of dryness after menopause or any hormonal change. Infection too could be the culprit. If you don't already use, why not try a lubricant and if symptoms persist maybe time to visit your Gynocologist.

Hi I am 57 I had this but had a problem with cervics after a cold coagulation op to get rid of dangerouse cells. They took to much away and left me with a partly Stenoic Cervics which, couldnt let menstal blood out and I became very poorley.

But on the other hand I also have a split at the oponing; I dont have a partner now but when I did 3 years ago now, the split would opon and bleed and cause me to scream-alloud-which rightly put my partner off.

Your best thing is to see your GP to rule anything out

Hope you are soon better x

It is more of a stinging pain. I do use lubricant but that stings too when I apply it.

I am 38.

Guess I need to visit the gp

This sound like a vulval pain syndrome. Its quite common in women, and if the pain is at penetration and burning after Sex, then best it sounds typical of this problem. Its poorly known about and best to seek help from Sexual health clinic. (Although its not sti related.) GP will not really be able to help or familiar with this. Treatment may vary depending on where you are in the country. Normally the clinic will do tests first, just to rule out Thrush etc then you will probably referred to the DR who specialises in this problem within the clinic hopefully.

My Urologist & Gynocologist both told me the cervical pain & vaginal pain is common in IBS. They know much more than my GI Dr. It's common to have a type of Streptococcus infection that feels like a UTI. This is also normal and goes away on it's own. The whole thing is depressing and life changing.

THANK you all, and thanks to wizzie 2090 for what you have just said, I had that streptocococus infection a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't go To my GP but after a few days, went away on its own,, it's sad life will never be the same with IBS
