Quick question re gaviscon

Does anyone find that gaviscon changes their bowel movements? Iv been taking 10ml at night recently as indigestion has kicked in and iv noticed a change to movements in the morning??? How strange x

Hi Montykat,

You should avoid taking gaviscon for indigestion - although it may relieve immediate symptoms - it actually makes problem worse over time as you are neutralising acid that is neccessary to digest your food properly - and food that isn't properly digested doesn't get absorbed goes on to provide food for the gut bacteria which consequently produce more gas (possibly contributing to the worsening of symptoms)!

Try drinking fresh mint tea and eating raw ginger. Also to help your food digest/get rid of indigestion - try swallowing a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in a small glass of water before eating or using it as a dressing over salads - this will help give right conditions in stomach for food to be properly digested!

But definitely don't take gaviscon for any prolonged period of time! Hope this helps..
