My brother in law has colitis but he is successfully managing this with medication. It sounds as though the doctors know what it is so I would think there's a high chance of it being treatable, though I'm no doctor.
I have colitis which I control by diet. Had a colonoscopy to confirm it. Wheat and corn are my triggers. Keep a food diary to see what triggers your attacks, then you might be able to find out what foods upset your system. It is just a case of trial and error. I was offered steroids but wanted to avoid them. Best of luck
Hi I had diarrhoea for 4months through taking Zantac colonoscopy revealed colitis can't remember which type , I lived on chicken and rice every meal , I been on wheat free diet ever since, that was the turning point for me, so I stuck with it,
Hope you get answers with your colonocapy
Thanks for that.
Suspect my probs could be linked to meds I took after heart ablation as I've seen a link somewhere!
Hopefully I'll know more next week. Glad the strike is off as Colonoscopy booked
Either way D is horrible to have. I was dx first with moderate to severe UC 26 years ago. Then after getting that under control several years later things drastically changed and the D took a different turn to about 20 x per day. Microscopic colitis was then diagnosed after about 6 months with no sign of UC. It took an old medicine called Dipentum to get it under control but once it did it pretty much went away and I went into what they called remission. Subsequent colonoscopies showed no sign of either diseases.
Then 2 1/2 years ago after about 15 years being symptom free, D showed up again and colonoscopy showed absolutely nothing but severe inflammation. Diagnosed with chronic severe IBD with IBS-D. But this time there doesn't seem to be any type of medicine or diet changes that seems to work.
I was told by the GI that the autoimmune Chrohns , UC, Colitis disorders respond better to treatments and medications because they are far more studied and accepted. That IBS was a "wastebasket" diagnosis for a very long time and given as a diagnosis when they didn't know what else was wrong. He said it has only recently become far more accepted, far more real and far more studied hence the newer meds out for it.
But for me personally the microscopic was easier in the sense that it didn't bring as much pain and cramping as IBS and more difficult that it brought on D 2-3 times more often and with NO warning than this IBS.
Good luck with your colonoscopy please let us know and hope you feel better.
Thanks so much for that! Waiting for investigation on Wednesdayand just hoping something shows up- apart from Cancer!!
If it is Mictoscopic Colitis - there is mention of steroids- have you had them? Are there side effects ?
