Another new med???

gastro now wants to put me on Amitripyyline? for cramps and pain , iam already on prozak for anxiety and depression and trazadone at night . any thoughts on this???

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant but at the doses used to treat IBS doesn't have these effects but instead acts on some of the nervous system in the gut. Prozac and trazadone work via a different pathway (they are SSRIs) so if you're doctor has suggested amitriptyline then I don't see any issue with you giving it a go.

I had it for a while and might have seen some improvements. However, it was at the same time as some other changes in my so it's hard to tell what caused the changes. More recently I've been seeing a therapist to help address my anxiety and found that my IBS has partially improved as a result. All the best to you.

amitriptyline is used in lots of other medical specialties at low dose for neuropathic pain and I really hope it helps with any pain you have associated with your ibs. There is a link to NICE (National institute of clinical excellence) on the ibs network page, it shows the NHS England current GP guide for ibs prescribing, have a look if you have 5 & I think it'll put your mind at rest.

If what your taking is not working for you then give amitriptaline a go! It is known to help ibs ALOT!

I am on other meds that may interact with the amitriptaline waiting for drs to agree if this is for me.

You can try antihistamines like ebastine,it has some positive result for ibs patient with the pain
