I have nocturnal bradycardia and regularly have flutters but never been told it's related to my IBS. My birth family have heart conditions so always put it down to that myself.

Hi yes I get this, but been told it is reflux, which is associated with the IBS .Sometimes the acid & Gas gets to high in the Hiatus area. Are you taking anything for this?

Had it pointed ou to me how high up the colon is in relation to heart under ribs so suspect if I sleep on  my left side in particular it happens

No, I haven't had a doctor confirm or prescribe anything but I'm having digestive issues and have read that these two can be related. I desperately need help.

Heart palpitations are also part of the body's stress response. Can indicate low magnesium.

Yes, very frightening. Sometimes lasts for hours, and feels as if heart  must burst out of my body. Often accompanied by waves of alternating  heat and cold.  Cannot relate it to any specific food so far.

I am trying to research it and figure it out... It's miserable.

Yes! It's horrible and can last ages. I've had all heart checks with no problems being identified.  Do get very fed up of it so I can sympathise with you! X

Yes, I had some pvcs and Pacs but all Drs said it was normal! I'm miserable!

There are lots of reasons why they can occur. I am having tests for low B12 and I've heard  being low in iron can cause them too as well as Ibs and stress.

Yes, I have researched them relentlessly. I think I will try magnesium.

Yes I have tried the magnesium. I take 400mg a day in the evening but I still get palps. Hope it works for you. I tend to think in my case it's digestive problems compounded by low B12 which is poor food absorption on my part. I have read that low potassium can cause them as well.

I have had a lot of health issues over last 9 months and palpitations were just one of those issues. Since trying mindfulness techniques, these have all but gone. I contributed my palpitations to lack of sleep, and night sweats and all sorts. However since trying mindfulness, my sleep has improved and palpitations have practically gone.  I guess you can find out about mindfulness anywhere but if you have trouble sleeping also the I would suggest Dr Guy Meadows, The Sleep Book.

I personally thought mindfulness etc was mumbo jumbo......how wrong I was!

What is "mindfulness"?

I am no expert. Its about relaxing, being aware of your senses and bodily sensations. Accepting what is happening rather than fighting against it. So if you sit for 30 seconds and close your eyes and then think about all the things you notice with your senses. i.e "I can hear the birds singing, the heat of the sun" etc.  With heart palpitations you would accept that it is happening rather than getting scared by it. Remember that it is probably your body going into Fight or Flight response and the more you worry about the palpitations, the more adrenaline is released and the worse it gets. Bt accepting the palpitations, even talking to it "ahh hello beating heart, back again!" you can actually calm your response and in term calm your mind.  It worked for me...but takes a little practice

Yes, I agree lack of sleep can be an important factor regarding palpitations but if there is a medical reason why they occur then mindfulness will not get rid of them.  But yes, good quality sleep is very important.

I get them as I'm very aneamic and can't get my stores (ferritin) up in number so just one month without iron tablets mean that my haemaglobin drops again and I'm aneamic again.

Been on the merry go around of iron treatment for two years, stop it then get I'll and then back on the tablets again.

Anyway just another idea to get checked

Probably important to separate specific heart related issues with the dreaded anxiety that can also cause those symptoms.

It's to with anxiety with is related to IBS you must practice breathing techniques and maybe yoga. Deep breathing. Try different free phone apps. They help when you are in the moment of palpitations.
