Help with acupuncture
Yes I have regular sessions of acupuncture and I find it does help .For me it calms and relaxes my gut and generally improves my well being .For others I am aware it is not very effective .
Hi
I have tried it for ibs and it didn't help my stomach much, but I find that only diet can do that really, but it's great for relaxation, stress and the other issues that go with ibs so it might be worth a try.

Yes! I have regular (ish) sessions and it's helped with my ibs as well as a whole other range of things! One thing to bear in mind is that often the acupuncture provided through the doctors are trained in acupuncture through a physiotherapy basis, and not through the Chinese medicine route.
Another thing I found helped was a talking based therapy, to help calm the stress and anxiety that comes along with ibs.
Hope you find something that works for you!
I go to an acupuncturist for my migraines and she also treats people for IBS. I have been really poorly with IBS symptoms and haven't been able to see her since January as I haven't dared to make an appointment as I've often needed the loo urgently and have felt so ill I didn't want to keep cancelling appointments. Co-incidently, I spoke to her last night about it all and she suggested I go back to see her as she may also be able to calm my system down and balance my body. She has helped me with my migraines quite a lot so I will go back again. Not everybody responds to acupuncture. My lady has been to China and studied their techniques so I have faith in her. I think you need to go for quite a few sessions to see if it makes a difference. I had been going regularly for a year as my migraines are chronic and I've had them for over 40 years. Good luck and if you decide to go I hope you get some relief.
My son had it and said it made the pain worse. He is hyperactive so it did not help with relaxation either.
We used a Chinese herbalist. He had 2 sessions and also was supposed to drink some awful root tea concoction which he refused to drink as it smelt so bad.
Thank you all for your comments. All very helpful. I will give acupuncture a try, I think. I did go for counselling for a couple of years and that helped me generally but not the IBS which flared up recently after years of just slight problems. I also need to see a dietitian so if anyone knows one in the north Notts area I'd be grateful of a recommendation.
Yes, I have acupuncture (chinese) every week, and it calms my down immensely. I am always completely free of pain for a good few hours or a few days. I don't know if it is psychological, but I don't much care - it works! Can be expensive though.
I have also been on the low fodmap diet for 7 months which has been very helpful, but life changing. You have to try everything to find what works for you.
IBS, despite what they tell you, is not a diagnosis. It's just a term given to a whole raft of conditions, when the serious things have been ruled out, and "they" can't or won't carry out tests to find what is at the bottom (sorry!!!) of it.
Good luck.

I use accupunture and herbs all the time and this really does work for IBS as well as many other symptoms. I go to a Chinese doctor who is qualified in Chinese medicine and herbal remedies. She runs a clinic in Sheffield and Harley street in London. people come from all over to see Dr Jeing and I swear by her she is so good and can tell you more than your local GP. Her number is 0114 2662051 or 07841 880695. She runs a clinic wed and Saturday in Sheffield. Please try her but you must stick with it and for awhile and she eventually will find the right herbal cure for you.
