I would also like to know opinions and experience with digestive enzymes

Yes, they gave me the worst indigestion/heartburn ever!

Oh dear - I think that might be happening to me!

Did you try different brands?

in reply toAfricanSheila

Yes, I tried 2 different brands, 6 months apart, and had the same adverse reaction to both.

Can I ask you which ones you tried?

in reply toAfricanSheila

The first was made by Solgar and the second was called 'Supergest' by Higher Nature.

Please could I ask what the side effects were?

As I've just come off 2 very strong antibiotics for something unrelated, I am trying to work out whether the horrendous acid reflux I now have is related to the aftermath of the antibiotics or the enzymes.  The enzymes did appear to be helping my gut. So I am trying to find out about side-effects. The FQA on the site where they come from seems to suggest there are few side-effects with their product.

Several years back I was given digestive enzymes by a food intolerance tester.  Ironically I was there because of my IBS and keen to find triggers.  However, I did not suffer much diarhoea at all as part of my symptoms. On around day three of the enzymes and on a day I was supposed to be going to a lunch party I found myself glued to the toilet with dreadful runs and pain.  I concluded that the enzymes had caused this to happen and was therefore too scared to take any more.  When I mentioned it to the tester she informed me that this could happen.  So my advice, tread carefully with them.  For the past month I have been taking a probiotic from Cytoplan.  I liked the fact that there are a couple to choose from depending on your age group.  So far they seem to be suiting me very well and although not the cheapest on the market are also vegan and dairy free.  Good luck Susie
