Colour of diarrhoea?

This is probably a ridiculous question but does the colour of D give a clue as to what caused it or would that be too easy? I usually have D that is yellow but this morning it was green. I was wondering if it was caused by the tiny bit of courgette I had the day before and that was why it was green. Or is there a more technical reason? Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Not a silly question, I've certainly noticed this phenomenon, also since starting FODMAP I have less diarrhoea. Certainly (too much) alcohol would result in copious dark diarrhoea for me.

I suggest you do some research on the web, it could be a fascinating and insightful journey.

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely do that. If I discover anything that I think may help others I will let you know. I have had more D since I started the FODMAP diet but that's because my stomach is so sensitive just now I think and I'm trying foods I wouldn't normally eat. But then the foods I normally eat were causing me problems too!

I know in babies that the colour of poo is a sign of something lacking in their diet. I was always told that green Pooh was not good. Yellow is very dairy based as that is colour of normal baby poo when on breast or bottle milk.

It could be a sign of what you are/not digesting. It is definitely worth pursuing.

Are you on any medication - either prescription or OTC?

Yes loads for Fibromyalgia, Asthma, Eczema, Depression, IBS, Allergic Rhinitis etc etc. But no new ones recently only the Buscopan which I've been on for about 3 weeks.

Ok, just wondered as I remember trying charcoal tablets ages ago and I had green bms then.

Hi Linden, I don't think any question on here is rediculous, we all have different problems, sometimes when your Liver is breaking down the Bile in your body it can make your Toilet Green. Apparently quite normal if it is not too often, I have had this before and my Doctor told me it just the Bile.

Hope this helps, I agree with Sharon look things up on the net, you can find some interesting stuff. Good luck.

It is common and quite possible that you may not actually have IBS proper, but BAD (bile acid diarrhoea) (generally yellowish in colour). You might wish to consider making query to your GP. Sometimes referred to as BAM or bile acid malabsorption.
