Ibs or parkinsons?

I read recently that constipation is one of the early symptoms of parkinson`s disease. This has scared me because Iv`e been constipated for weeks now, & I can`t figure out why. Iv`e had constipation before, but never for weeks on end. Should I worry about parkinson`s, or am I being paranoid?

It is hard not to worry when you read something like that but if we believe everything we read we would all be total wrecks. I would imagine there are thousands of people out there who suffer with constipation but never develop anything more serious. Try to concentrate on now and not on what may or may not be. It's hard enough to get through each day why make things harder for yourself by worrying? Keep cheerful it is half the battle.

Likewise. Constipation can be caused by many things or nothing apparent. May be helpful to see gp but don't expect instant diagnosis.

Have you actually been diagnosed with IBS ? Have you had a gastroscopy and/or a colonoscopy to rule out other reasons for your symptoms ? If not perhaps you should see your GP.

You should though visit your GP to let him/her know your concerns

Don't worry, be happy, and get a check up. Eat you greens and do an unexpected act of kindness :)

Hi, don't concern yourself with everything you read. Constipation can be brought on by a mixture of complaints. Each plenty of veg/fruit and drink plenty of water, then if you have any more concerns see your G.P. to put your mind at rest.

Constipation is incredibly common. My doctor said that about 10-30% of his patients come in as they have bowel issues relating to constipation.

(Diarrhoea is also common)

I really wouldn't worry unless you feel changes within yourself.

Also, if it's more long term and comes with pain then it will likely be something else. Maybe a food intolerance or as you say IBS.

I wouldn't worry, but if you do. GO TO YOUR GP! :-D

Good luck mate.

That's awful that anyone may even suggest that! Parkinson's is such a serious condition, I'd make a complaint if it was your doctor as I think whoever your doctor was they've made you frightened unnecessarily! Good luck I hope someone sorts this for you!

I am like that and worry too, I eat all my fruit and veg, fibre, drink water etc etc and I have had constipation for weeks and my dad died from Parkinsons with dementia ( the type Robin Williams had) I worry I have got cancer as I normally have got dioreah. I feel I shall go crazy, I do what all the self help pages say and if I eat any more fruit and veg I'll turn into a sodding vegetable at this rate. Know how you feel.
