Never settle I went to my doc during the eight week period and was put on medication. I've been on it ever since. That was five years ago that mixed with a daily multi vitamin, daily probiotic and changing my diet has made a vast difference to the frequency of episodes. Don't take anything without consulting your doc first

Yes it can last a while but over time it should start to improve - I'm post infective IBS. I'm still not right and been over a year and whole system gone haywire but have improved gradually over time. Take probiotics and ask for a dietitian and ask them to try the FODMAP diet with you. It may not solve all you symptoms but helped me with some. Eliminates the usual suspects - dairy (some but not all), wheat, onions, leeks, garlic, apples, peas and most beans. There is a long list of fruit and veg, some avoid, some OK in small quantities, others are fine. cut down or out sugar too. You avoid for 8 weeks and then reintroduce each one slowly and stop if bring on symptoms. You really need to do with dietitian esp as you have history of gastro probs but hold in there it can/does get better.

Oh yes, I've had a "flare up"of my divaticulitus since the begining of December, it has been totally miserable, I'm on my 4th lot of antibiotics, which I'm sure only adds to the problem, but slowly I'm having better days, so hang on in there, probiotics are a huge help, I take symprove, although expensive it is a god send, takes about 2 weeks for it to kick in but well worth it, I wish you well

Hi

At 65 I was diagnosed with 'symptoms consistent with IBS' after 12 or so weeks after start of severe diarrhorea.

I am now on a strict dairy free diet - absolutely nothing involving milk products or lactose (also check medication for lactose).

I use soya milk, soya based yogrt and Pure Sunflower spread.

After starting on this diet I was 'normal' after 3 weeks.
