The only things so far that's made a difference to me is anti depressants, though the effects didn't last.

Hello the doctors think my IBS started as a child as my father is an alcholic leading my to get very anxious, i lost my mum when she was 55yrs old and my brother at 35yrs old, so I do worry about thinks and get anxious quite quickly but I have tried yoga, exercise and lots of relaxation they do help me yoga is a good one as the relaxation at the end is amazing or just try leaning relaxation technique. I have been on anti depressent when I lost my mum about 14yrs ago, but I didn't like them. Hope this help you good luck

I don't have either anxiety or depression, so I guess the answer to your question is no! BUT my GP has just given me Prozac because he says that a side effect of it can often be an improvement in IBS. I've yet to find out if that's true, though, as the side effects have proved to be too bad so I've had to stop taking them till I'm on holiday from work.

I have recently tried a self-hypnosis course on CD specifically for IBS by Michael Mahoney (founder of the UK Register of IBS Therapists) website ibsaudioprogram100.com. I found it very helpful, perhaps you will too.

i think all the things we have to deal with and the trouble with social situations can definietely affect our mood levels. if we have had issues in the past then they can be triggered off with the added stress. I used the IBS 100 but bought it as a set of CDs. i found it helpful. I also recommend people to have cognitive behaviorual therapy because it links our emotions to behaviours, physiological responses, thoughts and actions. I have had CBT myself - wish id known about it years ago. I also took a course in CBT and also cognitive behavioural coaching to add to my psychology and coaching practice work. look u p both on the internet - research indicates that medication plus CBT/CBC is the most effective form of dealing with anxiety/depression and also helps with chronic illnesses like IBS. it certainly has helped me!!
