Relief for my bloated, uncomfortable tummy at last.

I have already been diagnosed with IBS(Nov 2012),

I have been really down as my tummy was always bloated and painful. I felt like I wanted the toilet all the time.

My Mum was reading a magazine and there was an article about a product called Optibac for a flat tummy.

We sent for some off the website and oh my goodness what a relief. My tummy is less bloated, less painful and I feel human again. I don't have all the uncomfortable sensations of feeling as though I want the toilet all the time. The pain has almost completely disappeared.

I still get issues if I eat the wrong thing but I just avoid food that irritates my stomach.

A really worthwhile product to try.

Check the ingredients - for those on a FODMAP diet - I think this Opticbac product contains fructo-oligosaccarides - but I'm going from memory. They have other products - but check the ingredients.

Is that a no-no then Sheila?

I am aware that because something helps some people, it can do nothing or even make things worse for others.

One of the many products I tried last year was aimed at IBS and it was a prebiotic rather than a probiotic. It basically said that probiotics are useless and their product fed the good bacteria in the gut. No idea how it could only target the good ones!

I can't remember the name of it right now but they were round jellies, the texture of wine gums.

Anyway, glad you found something that helps you Lisa. I have tried dozens of different probiotics with no success - I saw those amongst the hundreds available. Maybe I should give them a go. I know they have a few variants.

Have you checked out FODMAPs? I was at my GI doctor last week and mentioned FodMAPS. She said, "You read my mind!" and gave me referral to nutritionist. Prebiotics are generally not helpful to IBS sufferers, as I have discovered. It's iffy on probiotics, too.

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

I know not all products suit all the same people, I just wanted to share what had improved my current symptoms.

I was at my wits end with the constant irritated feeling in my tummy so thought well they cant make it worse. I wont say its cleared them up completely but at least I can sleep a bit now.

I hope you find relief for your symptoms, I know how draining it can be on your energy to cope.

I think the pastilles you talked about are called Bimuno Ibaid, you get them from boots. I have mainly ibs c and I find them brilliant for constipation. It says to chew 2 a day but that's way too much, what I do is chew one wheni get very consripated, sometimes I don't take one for weeks but when I do it always works. My sister saw them being talked about by a doctor on tv and it said they were good for ibs so she bought them for me and I personlly find that after 7 years trying different laxatives these little gums, which are not classed as laxatives, do the job for me!! I would not recommend them on a regular basis by no means, and defo not if you have ibs d, but worth a try for ibs c.

Thanks for your comment lisarichards1, maybe this is something that will help me as I get the same symptons. Best of luck to you

Hi Nanabud, yes they are the ones. They are supposed to be prebiotics, but if they work for you that's great :)

I got them direct from their own website where they are 3 for the price of 2 with free delivery.

I am just starting the Bimuno powder which is tasteless and sprinkled in your brew each day. They say it takes 7 days to start working so fingers crossed!
