A walk in the park

Hello all,

I'm new here and would like to wish everyone well.

Before my brain tumour diagnosis, I was a very keen hiker and, although i can't manage long distance treks at the moment, I still dream about heading off into the hills. Also, I find my shorter walks in the park very therapeutic - they clear my head better than anything else and it's still fun kicking all the fallen October leaves. If you have a similar interest, i'd love to hear about past hikes that you've done or future ones that you're hoping to do. Cheers.

I want to walk up my local mountain. It’s not a big deal as I know lots of my friends have done it but it will be for me. I need to get my fitness level first.

I love crunchy leaves! I remember going to step on one last year when I was out with my friend and her little girl and it wasn’t a crunchy one. I was gutted so my friend pinched one of her daughters crisps and put it under another leaf so I could hear the ‘crunch’ 😂😂😂

You've a good friend. I hope you get up that mountain soon and find some extra crunchy leaves up there and maybe a few pine cones too. I've been attempting to climb my local mountain for a few weeks now. The poor weather, lockdown and a bit of fatigue have conspired against me but I'm determined to make it. Good luck!

My partner loves hiking, I'm from a rural town so I appreciate the outdoors very much but never particularly did mountains. I did snowdon prediagnosis but my fitness is awful now ( it was never amazing but definitely worse now).

I'm trying to build it back up too by walks in local park and down canals. I live near a cycle/walkway which is a big bonus. Hoping I will be dragged up a mountain again at some point.

Keep going, one step at a time as they say

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm also trying to build up my strength with walks in the park. I go a little further every day and hopefully in the Spring I'll be able to do a proper hike. Snowdon sounds like a good mountain to aim for. 👍

Me too. I did big hikes every two years overseas like Canadian Rockies, NZ South Island, Tiger Leaping Gorge in China. Also used to do bush walks. After craniotomy, I could barely walk straight to bathroom( functional but shit mobility). I could walk to post box, then around the corner and now I do CrossFit 3 times a week and walk 12,000 steps everyday.

My next trip was going to be Mt Blanc or Swiss alps- just walking not hardcore ice picks. Ha ha

I hiked half of the tour du mont blanc last year (before my diagnosis) and always intended to do the other half, but not sure about that now. Feel free to direct message me if you have any questions about it and good luck with your preparations. It sounds like you've already made some great strides.
