Hi there, happy to hear you are recovering well. My experience with the DVLA is not so good. 7 years ago I surrendered my licence for 1 year after my craniotomy to remove a meningioma. I got my licence back ok then 4 years ago I had to surrender my licence for 2 years as I had another 2 tumours which needed another craniotomy to remove them. I got my licence back, but it was only valid for one year. It ran out December 14th 2023. I applied in October as they sent me the forms to fill in, and I’m still waiting, I cannot drive under section 88 as my license ran out because it was only valid for one year. I’m patiently waiting as there is nothing I can do to hurry them up. Nothing has changed with me in the last 3 years, so I don’t understand why they are taking so long. I’ve had every test and medical that they’ve told me to do , at the time they’ve told me to have them, and I’m still waiting. They are not the easiest people to contact to get any answers either. I wish you all the best and hope you have a better time getting your licence back. Good luck to you
You should be ok to apply for the licence again time wise - my understanding In UK DVLA requires no driving for 6 months after surgery. However your ongoing health is also key. I'm not allowed to drive & have also chosen not to as have lost peripheral vision in lefty eye.
