Continuing problems after RAI treatment
Fifteen months ago I had RAI treatment to destroy my thyroid as the Consultant said it could no longer be treated with carbimazole as it was affecting my white blood cell count. So eventually, despite not wanting to, I had the treatment. As I had had an underactive thyroid for 12 years before it changed

sudden hyper symptoms
I take 75mcg levo and 3mcg cytomel. The last few days I am suddenly feeling hyper instead of hypo. I feel very anxious, wired, faster heartbeat, my period is shorter, trouble sleeping, very warm and a tight throat. I have scheduled a blood draw in 4 days. I want to lower my meds today because I feel

Quality of life not great
Hi all. I’ve been taking Levothyroxine for over 12 years now, and despite an increase from 50 to 75 mcg last year, my quality of life just hasn’t improved. I have constant fatigue, hair falling out everyday, thinning eyebrows and cannot lose weight despite reducing my daily calorie intake to around 1100

Is one 100mcg tablet much different from two 50mcg levothyroxine tablets?
Hi all. I wondered if anyone had noticed a difference or know of there being a difference in effect between taking two 50mcg tablets of levothryoxine as opposed to one 100mcg tablet? I’m curious as there seems to be much chat around the effects of the filler in the tablets re different brands so wondered

Upsetting visit to A&E chest pain bradycardia
Hi all. First a piece of good news. One of my daughters finally got a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s and was prescribed Levothyroxine last week. That’s as far as the good news goes regarding doctors. For over a week when I lie down in the evenings I develop chest pain, nausea, tingling hands/feet etc

Experiment to switch from Metavive to levothyroxine
On 23rd September 2022 I started to gradually introduce levothyroxine and reduce Metavive until I was on only levo to see if I could manage on this alone. [see post Raising TSH from 11 months ago]. I had hoped to see if I converted T4 to T3 adequately but had to do it myself as my GP wouldn't help with

BTA and 'T3 does not cross the placenta'
The BTA guidelines on liothyronine state 'T3 does not cross the placenta'. There is some truth in this in that type 3 deiodinase (D3) in placenta converts T3 to T2. However, they fail to point out that D3 also converts T4 to rT3. The transport of T3 and T4 across the placenta is very complex but the

Blood test results
Could you help me make sense of these? 18 months ago my GP lowered my levothyroxine dose on the basis of a suppressed TSH. I got all the symptoms back. I did not have a blood test between Jan 2022 and a fortnight ago. I waited 15 months for this hospital appointment. The consultant wrote to me with

Anxiety
Hi, I'm 67 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in my early 50s. A couple of years ago I was started on Atorvastatin for raised cholesterol and suffered anxiety, which went away when I came off the medication. I was then started on Rosuvastatin and after a few months developed anxiety again. However

Distortion of Hba1c test with levo
Hi Someone asked me to give further info about my claim that HbA1c tests cannot be relied upon if you are being treated with levothyroxine. I can't find that request now so I'm starting a new thread. The clearest statement is on the American Thyroid Association website.
WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS

'Interim' GP blood results and trying to draw conclusions
Hello, A GP I saw recently (long story but not same one who gave me increase in Levo) ordered bloods. I have been on 100 mcg of Accord for 4 weeks, so wasn't planning to test for another month. The following were tested, I've included the same NHS results for comparison earlier this year.: NHS

headaches an hour after taking Levothyroxine
This is so debilitating - it's migraine-like (i.e. visuals and strange sensation) and lasts all-day. I've been ok-ish on the Levothyroxine (not super-well but getting by) but this is too much. I also have diarrhoea every day after taking it but I've always had that with the Levo. I take the Levothyroxine

T4 in Levo v T4 in NDT
Taking NDT I have often wondered how long the T4 in NDT starts to work and how. In Levo everyone states six weeks before it starts to work. Does anyone have a clue it could be interesting but I cannot find any information on it.
