Avodart when off ADT a mistake?
If one is trying to prevent prostate cancer cells from becoming insensitive to ADT, then is it wise to continue dutasteride while on the off cycle? If per Snuffy most of the support for PC cells comes from DHT not T, then just as stopping T reduces the DHT, is not dutasteride acting in a similar way

Searched here for "Embelin" and found nothing
Yet, Embelin or Vidanga sounds interesting. 1) "Embelin-Induced Apoptosis of Human Prostate Cancer Cells Is Mediated through Modulation of Akt and β-Catenin Signaling" (2015). "... Embelin, isolated as the active component of the fruit of Embelia ribes Burm, is one of the important small molecular inhibitors

Fatty Acid Synthase [FAS]
Fatty Acid Synthase [FAS, FASN] is an enzyme used in the synthesis of fatty acids - mainly palmitic acid, a 16-carbon saturated fatty acid. I mentioned palmitic acid in recent posts. It is the preferred energy source of normal prostatic epithelial cells, & this mostly does not change in cells that become

A Drug Shown To Actually Slow Progression in Humans
The team identified 2880 Parkinson's patients taking one of the three drugs that target PGK1 and a comparison group of 15,409 PD patients taking tamsulosin. Using ICD-9/ICD-10 medical codes to track PD-related diagnoses and hospital or clinic visits for all the patients, the data suggested that under

Dutasteride and Tamoxifen (T->DHT blocker and SERM)
Are these contraindicated? I have prostate cancer and am doing cycles of casodex/dutasteride/zytiga, then estrogen patches/zytiga, then testosterone injections/dutasteride. Should Tamoxifen only be used during the estrogen patch/zytiga portion of the cycle? Thanks

BATlike therapy
My thought. Please critique this plan. I am not PrC (had RP in 12/2018 and PSAs have been zero since then). Gleason 9, one local lymph node, positive margin. This is my tentative plan (reduce risk of CrPc and increase libido for a little bit each year). 6 monthsBicalutamide, Dutasteride, Zytiga 2

Increased urinary frequency at night
Hi, Does anyone have any thoughts here? Diagnosed metastatic pc in April 2018, psa 255, one core Gleason 4+5, other cores 4+3 or 3+4. Bone scan negative. CT scan includes lymph involvement. Underwent cyberknife followed by five-weeks of external/definitive radiotherapy to all visible disease in Oct 2018

Cycle estrogen and casodex/dutasteride
I have been on estrogen patches to lower testosterone. Very effective. Undetectable T and PSAs are 0. No depression. But zero libido, loss of strength, and lower RBC (I think that 0 T is going to cause those regardless of how you get there). So I am going on a combo of casodex and dutasteride. Casodex

Early Dutasteride Monotherapy in Patients With Elevated PSA Following Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy
Interesting new study (off-topic for most of us) [1]. "We retrospectively analyzed RARP patients whose pathological stage is T2a to T3b without lymph node or distant metastasis from 2007 to 2017. All patients received a daily dose of 0.5 mg of dutasteride {Avodart} when post-RARP {Robot-Assisted Radical

Surprising tE2 (transdermal estradiol) results...fifth update
Just received the results from my August 10 blood draw and I am pleasantly surprised. I started using the E2 gel 16 months ago after my PSA continued to rise despite having sacral lymph node surgery in an attempt to counter the post RP BCR. I have chosen this regimen in lieu of Lupron and other ADT

Tamsulosin (Flomax)
I've been taking tamsulosin for BPH for several years. Lately having a persistent post nasal drip I began to check and see if any of the meds I take could be causing it. When I saw this as a potential side effect of tamsulosin I went from taking two capsules a day to taking one. The post nasal drip

DCT and Pain Relief
I've been doing DCT for nearly a week now and I'm very hopeful I'm going to see results... It gives us all that little bit of hope when we hit rock bottom after having a flare up... I've had to stop doing everything these past 12 months, whether it be have sex, masturbate, the gym, sports, even a light

Celebrating with a visit for Canadian Ducoral
Just back from two weeks RV camping in BC Canada. Wonderful time with my wife and dog. While there I walked into a Pharmacy without a prescription and bought the 2-dose Ducoral vaccine for cholera and travelers' diarrhea. Cost $84 Canadian. Now have taken both doses and have zero expectation for it.

Dutasteride & prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) expression.
New study below [1]. "A short-term treatment of patients with high doses of dutasteride {Avodart} might increase the detection rate of PSMA-based imaging and increase the effect of 177Lu -PSMA-617 therapy via upregulation of PSMA expression." -Patrick [1] https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31233227

combining Abiraterone with Avadart have synergistic benefit
"Armed with new insights into how metastatic prostate tumors gain resistance to the next-generation androgen inhibitor abiraterone, Cleveland Clinic oncologist Nima Sharifi, MD, has discovered a way to make the drug’s activity more durable and potent. Pairing abiraterone (abi) with the enzyme inhibitor

5ARIs & the PCa Masking issue.
New study that's likely to be misreported [1]. Finasteride & Dutasteride are 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs). They are used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). They do this by inhibiting the aromatization of testosterone [T] to the more potent dihydrotestosterone [DHT]. BPH-related

Elevated LFTs
Tomorrow is my last day of IMRT, with high-dose Brachytherapy scheduled to follow starting next week. But on pre-op labs my LFTs hav risen dramatically over the past 3 months, up 4-7x from normal baseline. I did not have visceral mets on any of several staging scan types. I am asymptomatic as far as
