Synacthen test, some information please from those who have had one.
I am due to have a Short
Synacthen
test
in a few days and I have read that it can cause side effects. I have experienced an anaphylactic shock as a result of an allergy to an ingredient in certain painkilling medications and am now concerned about having this test.

Fatigue symptoms vanished right after Synacthen test, but test showed sufficient cortisol levels. What is going on?
Suspecting adrenal fatigue she underwent a
Synacthen
test
yesterday. Her base line (pre) cortisol was 237 nmol/l. Post (30 min.) cortisol was 471 nmol/L, suggesting no adrenal fatigue. However, ALL SYMPTOMS disappeared when the post
Synacthen
test
measurement was performed.

Short Synacthen Result...
So my adrenals still have the ability to produce cortisol... now I need to go and re-read about it... I can't remember if this means my pituitary isn't putting out enough signal or my adrenals are too knackered to respond most of the time?

Update on latest blood test & 1st visit to endo in 27yearsš³
Due to cortisol being low I'm now to have another
test
a short
synacthen
to check adreanals & possible Addison. As my TSH levels are low asked to change levo to 100/125 alternate days got the usual scare stories but thought I'd try it see how I go can always go back.

IGE Blood test results in severe asthma?
Does anyone know if itās ok to have normal full count IGE levels in severe asthma? Do they shoot up in exacerbations? What tests you need to prove severe asthma in tertiary centres?I believe Synacthen is one of them to check steroid resistance is there any other specific to check once having exacerbation

Synacthen Test Results and Endocrinologistās Advice.
I had a
Synacthen
Test
last week and got the results yesterday. I am on 5 mgs of Pred and have been for a long time. I fully expected to fail the Adrenal function test. To my astonishment, I passed the test to measure the potential for my Adrenals to function without Pred with flying colours.

Iāve felt particularly tired recently but my cortisol tests have been in the normal range. Is this usual?

Cortisol test for Adrenals
Dr has agreed to order a 9 am cortisol test for me because I read on here it was easier/better than a
synacthen
test
. I gather from Dr Google that I do not take my usual morning dose of Prednisone? But I did see in another paper that children being tested are supposed to miss two days.

#2 Update: Adrenal Testing
I've also had a short
Synacthen
test
. Stop The Thyroid Madness (For better, for worse) insist that salt is restricted the day before Aldosterone testing and that the arm is held at a perpendicular angle, after movement and in the morning when blood is being drawn.

Update #8 Endo or Endonāt
As Iāve already written about, I failed my
synacthen
test
back in February and subsequently decided to self-source hydrocortisone (HC). My default position is always to avoid NHS where I can as historically I find it nothing but traumatic dealing with their incompetence and ignorance.

Update #3 Self-Treating
He did mention that my
Synacthen
test
came back as āborderline.ā In the absence of my full results I have decided to move ahead and self-treat. Iām not recommending this, just sharing what I am choosing to do.

#1: The Start
who has suggested the following - -
Synacthen
Test
- Adrenal Auto-Antibody - Aldosterone - Sodium - Potassium Tests are on 3rd March. He has hinted already at Hydrocortisone treatment, which after some semi-successful use of adrenal cortex extract makes some sense to me.

Still struggling ...
I also had a short
synacthen
test
, but I understand that doesn't test for secondary AI. I might be overcomplicating things with thoughts of 2nd AI, but just trying to look at all angles. So, I feel things really should be improving, but my numbers are still not ideal.

Should I take my Thyroid meds before or after a Synacthen Test?
Hi all I have a 9am SST on Tuesday and I am wondering if I take my Thyroid meds before or after? Also, Iāve been taking all my other supplements and my B12 has biotin in it, is that okay? Thanks

Thyroid and cortisol results
Cortisol was just below range, which should trigger an endo referral for a
synacthen
/ACTH
test
, but not bad at all considering the saliva results. I'm curious about the albumin though, which is just scraping into range - does that mean anything?

THE HPA AXIS OR THE TRIO.
The ACTH
test
(also called the cosyntropin, tetracosactide, or
Synacthen
test
) is a medical test usually ordered and interpreted by endocrinologists to assess the functioning of the adrenal glands stress response by measuring the adrenal response to adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH;corticotropin).
