piko and fev1
Hi to all you piko users out there. Does anyone know how reliable the fev1 reading is. My son was in hosital this weekend and they used our peak flow meter, although his peak flow varied a bit by about 30 l/min his fev1 reading was pretty constant. If this reading is accurate I should probably speak

Recovery time?
How long does it usually take to get over an exacerbation? I know everybody is different and so recovery times will probably vary but I just want a bit of reassurance. I got very poorly over the Christmas break and had to start my emergency prednisolone on boxing day. I took the last dose of my prednisolone

Symbicort
Ive been taking symbicort for about 7 months now. From my perspective its worked wonders as its replaced many inhalers including salbutamol which ive taken for most of my life and the need to take prednisolone tablets for exacerbations, at least for now anyway. I read an article from an american author

Recently diagnosed, and feeling low
Hi all, Have recently been diagnosed with mild to moderate asthma, about 6 weeks ago. Since then, I can't seem to get it under control. I've been seeing my GP, who has prescribed Salbutamol, and I'm being monitered. Having spirometry tests next week, and may have to have a steroid inhaler too. This

asthma or not? moan alert!
I apologise in advance for the moan but really do not know what to think anymore. Over the past few months my son has had a bit of a rough time with his ?Asthma. He caught a chest infection just before christmas and has been really up and down since (more down than up). He has had 5 admissions since

Atrovent
Sorry if this has been answered before but I had a look and couldn't quite find what I was after in the other Atrovent posts. Just been prescribed this by GP, it tastes awful but seems (just on a couple of puffs) to be doing at least something! Label says 'two puffs when symptoms' and I know it works

Being around smokers
Hi - have recently been semi-diagnosed as ""probable late-onset asthma"". Am currently on my third course of pred in the last couple of months, following a bad weekend where my peak flow was down to 270. Peak flow is now back up to 600, so seems to be doing the trick (it should be 645-ish; am 37 and

weird reaction to salbutamol
I have just needed to take a lot of salbutamol- more than usuall (about 4-6 puffs) and I have noticed that although i feel better, I have a very quiet wheeze/funny feeling in my chest, upon INHALATION. i say wheeze cause it feels that way but you can barely hear it. it is not stridor because it is deep

GP dictating brand of Salbutamol Sulphate
I've used the same medication and repeat prescription for a number of years. Today I got a letter advising they are changing my repeat prescription from Salbutamol Sulphate 100 to Salamol Inhaler 100. Obviously it is the same ingrediants, dosage etc but I was wondering can they do this and why are

Confused Ramblings!!!
Sorry this is going to be a bit of a ramble!! I started on Pulmicort last Wednesday, taking 1 puff morning and night. At the same time I changed from Salbutamol to Bricanyl. I've noticed that since Thursday, my symptoms are not any worse, but more frequent. Before taking it I'd get the symptoms once

I was wondering about changing the type of salbutamol (blue) inhalel, currently im using the auto inhaler because i found it difficult inhaling the evohaler properly about 2 years ago. Cleaning
What's the best way to keep an Aerochamber Plus free of inhaler dust? Salbutamol is bad enough to wash out but this seretide 250 seems not to reach me, no matter how I puff it in. I've taken without spacer several times, to get the correct dose. GM

How can I get the doctors to help my son?
Hi, could anyone help or suggest what I could ask the doctors next time I see them. I have asthma and I'm on salbutamol and sertide inhalers then take a singulair tablet at night. My son is on salbutamol, antihistamine syrup and clenil modulite (beclometasone disproportinate)-think I've mispelled that

Virgin Active Gym Membership Issues
Thought I would make everyone aware of my trip to join Virgin Active gyms (Tower Hill branch) today. On joining I was asked to fill out a medical form. On filling out the form in ""Any other issues about your health"" I wrote, ""Asthmatic - takes Salbutamol inhaler as and when required"". I was then

Asthma Nurse
Hi, hope everyone is well I was in with my GP today for a change of meds, which was fine, but she's mentioned in passing a few times about seeing an Asthma nurse about once a year but hasn't told me anything about how to go about it. I don't need to see one soon or anything but I've heard them mentioned

Coping with Exercise
I was wondering if anyone had any tips for coping with exercise with asthma? Last night I tried a fitness class, and even though they said it would all be at your own pace, it was clealy too much for me or at least for my lungs - I was really symptomatic and my peak flow dropped way down, then as punishment
