Asthma control over Christmas
This is going to be a long post so please bear with me. My asthma's been pretty unpredictable since the weather turned colder, twice daily peak flows look great, but I keep having sudden attacks which take a lot of salbutamol to bring under control. I went to the doctors last week and had my Seretide

Beclometasone preventer inhaler and eating chocolate
Hi Daft question I know but does anyone know if eating chocolate while on a course of the preventer inhaler 'beclometasone' (one puff in the morning and one puff in the evening) and using my releif inhaler salbutamol when required have an effect on your body? I love chocolate and have been ill for

Hi from a new member
Hi all, My story Im Kate, 16 years old and was diagnosed with asthma last year. In the past 2 months I’ve been in hospital twice. The first time was really scary and they couldn’t control it at my local hospital so I was transferred to a kid hospital and put in Intensive care on CPAP (non-invasive

Self-inflicted suffering
I did the 10k RNLI reindeer run at knowsley safari park this morning. It was great fun but i'm feeling it now. I was fine for over 6k but then it sort of hit me in both my legs and chest! I could see the 7k marker but just couldn't keep going. I stopped running and walked for a while and also took my

salbutamol weirdness.
I've found recently if I'm using it for tightness, it makes me really lightheaded to the point where I usually have to lay down due to feeling like I'll pass out and I feel really sick. I'm ok if I'm using it for coughing and shortness of breath. I'll sound stupid, but it puts me off using it with tightness

Scared, confused and in need to help
Hi I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me. In November I had a weird reaction after eating some Japense meso paste which was put down to an allergic reaction. After this I had several reactions that involved feeling itchy and have a weird sensation about me that I knew something bad was about

3 down, Hoping not 1 to go!
Hubby is asthmatic, daughter is asthmatic and now I've just been told it is highly likely I am asthmatic too! After suffering three weeks with what initially was a dreadful cough coming out of nowhere and leaving me exhausted. The first call I made was to emergency docs one night as I was struggling

Relievers for reversibility test
I seem to respond better to Atrovent and best to both
salbutamol
and
ipratropium
combined. Is there any way of requesting an alternative to
salbutamol
?

Rapid acceleration of symptoms after diagnosis
I was diagnosed with adult onset asthma (mild) about 6 months ago, and since then I've gone from using Salbutamol, to using Beclometasone, and today have had salmeterol inhaler added to the collection. Seems that since diagnosis my respiratory health has declined rapidly. Has anyone else experienced

Reliever used for reversibility testing
Saw on the form today they want to do another reversibility test, using salbutamol again. Is there any way of asking them to use something else, maybe Atrovent? I've been wondering if the reason my last reversibility test showed nothing was because they used salbutamol which I've never responded to

Novovirus
Just had a unique experience due to Novovirus closing chest wards, stayed on a ward that was crashed open hence at first there was only beds! No tables, lockers, water jugs or more worringly enough nebulisers. I was ok because i have my nebs via O2 but 1 nebuliser for 18 patients is a bit scary. The

Walk in centres grrr!
I went to the walk in centre today because I was silly and forgot to do my repeat. I have everything except Singulair. Since I've just come off citalopram and I'm suffering with dizzy spells I didn't want any more withdrawal effects over the weekend. I sat for an hour, which I fully expected after

Out of control asthma: how do I survive?
I have a *probable* dx of intrinsic asthma - the ""challenge"" test of a few weeks ago indicated that I don't have the allergic type. They seem to have eliminated other causes for my chronic cough, chest tightness and wheezing...every year I get a ""cold"" that lasts 2-3 months, then I still cough when

First appointment with asthma clinic
I'm getting antsy because I've finally booked in with my GP's asthma clinic, and I'm really nervous that the practice nurse will be pants. My asthma's not bad, but it's not fabulously well managed. I was loosely diagnosed just over a year ago, and I've had no kind of review or plan or anything since

IV salbutamol
I respond fantastically to IV Salbutamol 5mg in 500mls starting at 120 mls per hour and reducing very slowly (over many days). Since starting to use this protocol I have not needed intubation once so it really does work. I am constantly told this is highly unusal I just wondered how many others there
