Rifaximin

I have taken Rifaximin but still showing symptoms. I have read a lot on root cause for SIBO as being the only sure fire way of ridding yourself of the bacterial overgrowth but could the same thing be said for IBS.

Hi all, I've been taking 550mg of Rifaxamin for around 6 months. I'm now struggling with joint pain especially in my knees and elbows, and my leg and arm muscles constantly feel tight and ache. Has anyone else had similar problems?

Now back at home he's had rifaximin added to his meds and they've stopped the pregablin all together on his discharge sheet for time being probably because it does actually make husband individually very very tired and he sleeps pretty much all day on it. since being home hes more alert and mobile now

Given that I haven't had a drink since December 2022, and am careful over diet, medication (rifaximin) and vitamin regimes, I asked if the letter contained further information and was told to contact the Gastro unit at the hospital for a copy of the letter the GP practice has received.

Hi, Following surgery in Oct 2022 (TIPPS procedure) I now have to take Rifaximin (550mg twice daily) and Lactulose to prevent confusion etc caused by encepahalopathy. Since taking it, I do not suffer with confusion, tiredness or anything that would affect my ability to drive.

Just started taking Rifaximin and within a day I started to get watery diarrhea non stop, isn't his antibiotic supposed to stop IBS-D? I also got really bad heartburn twice which is something I have not had for a long time. I GP said to stop just in case it is Cdiff and wait a few days.

But the thing I am battling with at the moment is he is not driving, which is the right thing to do, as he is on rifaximin for HE, and hasn't driven since his haemorrhage last December. The QE consultant said he shouldn't drive again while on it. Which I understand.

I’ve got SIBO and was prescribed Rifaximin by my Gastroenterologist at the beginning of the year which unfortunately didn’t work, and when I saw him last Wednesday he’s going to try me with some more antibiotics, but he asked me to do a sample to check for pancreatic enzymes which I did yesterday and

She has requested that he is taken off of: - Thiamine - Folic Acid - Rifaximin - Vitamin B String Compound - Furosemide - Omeprazole So I guess she is not concerned about Hepatic Encephalopathy, Hiatus Hernia & Oedema anymore?

He takes lactulose, rifaximin daily as well as spirolactone. Prescribed Vit D. Last week he had 800mls fluid drained off his lung. His tummy is fit to burst but doesn't seem to be at a level where professionals are concerned and want to drain.

I have several problems relating to the HE that do not seem to be improving at all even though I am on the lactose and rifaximin for it.

I’ve got IBS-C and have recently been diagnosed with Sibo , I’ve had a 2 week course of antibiotics, Rifaximin, but they’ve done nothing , in fact I feel worse now , my stomach is in turmoil, so I’m assuming I still have it , but I haven’t been re tested yet , so I can’t be sure .

I take only lactulose and rifaximin as drugs, no HE.... . . Can you give me some advice please.?

After dealing with liquid stools, bloating and weight loss for months, I'm finally getting tested for SIBO on Wednesday and then, assuming I'm positive since all the other tests were negative, starting the antibiotic protocol (Rifaximin).

Rifaximin antibiotics. Various othet things for malabsorption. All to no avail. It would happen every week or 2 weeks. Feel like i need to pass gas and then realise i was wet with clear mucus. No blood. The dr said he did not know what it was. I paid to see a pvt gastro doc.

Has anyone used a prokinetic after taking Rifaximin for SIBO and was it helpful in preventing the SIBO recurrence?

My GI started me on Rifaximin and Neomycin last night. She did a liver function panel test before I started on the antibiotics and the AST was 52 and the ALT was 73. She is doing an ultrasound because of the elevated liver enzymes and I am terrified that it could be something catastrophic.

He started me on rifaximin and week after my symptoms were back. Started me on bile acid powder questran light. I had diarrhea constantly so gave up on it. He started me on doxycycline and did not help. The gas and wet mucus got worse. I decided to go dairy gluten and wheat free.

anyone have rifaximin side effects?

He is now on Nacetal, Folic Acid, Magnesium Glycerophpsphate, Omeprazole, Rifaximin, Thiamine, Vitamin B Compound, plus he also has Spironolactone & Lactulose, but he has been told by the specialist not to take these at the moment. The support and help that hubby is getting has been amazing
