I have COPD, no other info. Is this normal?
3 weeks ago I had my diagnosis of COPD from the nurse who runs the COPD clinic at our GP surgery. I was prescribed a Ventolin inhaler (Sambutamol) and today's appointment was a follow up to see how I've got on. All my original discussions with nurse, GP and consultant said my breathlessness was probably

Does anyone know what 63% fev1 means?
I have had a chest X-ray showing emphysemic changes and just had a spirometer test. Results show fev1 at 63%. I am a 50 year old female at 5.5ft. I smoked since 14 but have given up multiple times including now. The doctor said I am on the border between mild and moderate but he didn't se too sure

Normal spirometry
Hi, I have just received my latest spirometry results. FEV1 58% FEV1/FVC 101% Interpretation NICE 2010: Base: normal spirometry Post: normal spirometry The nurse believes I come under the umbrella of COPD. Why would the test be a normal spirometry if my FEV1 is only 58%pr? I have called

Spirometry result
Hi, I received my spirometry results last Friday and was told that my lung age was 66yrs. But the nurse did not give me my readings, so I picked them up today. My FEV1 reading is 64%., lower than I hoped!

Lung age
I was told yesterday that my lung age is 66, but I wasn't given the other readings. I will call and ask for them on Monday. I am 37 years old. Does anyone know how my lung age may relate to my FEV1 reading and stage of disease?

Predicted normal FVC/PEF & FEV1 levels
Can anyone tell me what my 'normal' predicted levels of subject should be? I am white, European female aged 56 with a height of 155cm? My last FVC (last month) was 2.21 and FEV1 was 0.01 (none existant?) A year ago the same were FVC 2.4 and FEV1 was 1.34 How bad are these values(in terms of mild

FVC, FEV1 & FEV6
I know what ' normal' FVC levels are and, as I understand it, there's not a lot of difference between this and FEV6 but FEV1? What is 'normal', what is below average and what is 'critical'? Why do the doctors/nurses n not explain these things, do they think we are all too stupid to understand?

Azithromycin
I have been taking Az for some time now - 250mgs each day/or every other day. There has been much written in the techical papers both for an against regular dosing. The "Fors" advise that it does have measurable benefits in reducing the number of exacerbations in cases of severe and very severe COPD.

One year On........
ONE YEAR ON 12 months ago, I had 3 valves inserted into my right lung, in the upper lobe. This lobe had such severe damage from emphysema, that large cavities had formed where there should be alveoli, along with scar tissue. This lobe was not doing very much to help my breathing, in fact, it was

Can anyone explain Spirometry percentages please?
After months of waiting to see a consultant which I finally got to do a few weeks ago, I have been given the detail of my latest spirometry test which has left me even more confused. What does it suggest if the Fev1 and FVC percentages are higher than predicted, surely that is good.

Yay! turns out i'm not crazy!
Had my lung function test today, I was a little worried that while i'm on pred, and so many other meds and was actually feeling pretty good (chest clear as you would expect for lungs which know they're going to see a doctor) i might not show much reversibility at all. so i was pretty reluctant and part

Do I, Don't I, my Dr is saying differently to what the official guidelines are
I have just got back from my GP appointment to discuss my spirometry from last week where the practice nurse told me I did not have COPD But I am more confused than ever. I am told me FEV1 is 74% and all the text books say that is moderate COPD But my GP is saying while 74% is indicative of COPD

Six monthly check with respiratory nurse
Went for my check-up yesterday and my FEV1 is now 27% which is down by 3% so I am now Stage 4, but as I don't feel any different I am not worrying too much. I got the results of my bone density scan and now find I have osteopenia so have a visit booked to Gp to have vitamen D and calcium and to see

Re-FEV 1 Tests
I have just received the letter my consultant sends to my G.P from when I saw her in December, she wanted lung function test done again after my bout of Pnuemonia back in the summer and the results are in the letter. I have felt really well since October (touch wood) so when I saw her I was really
