Endobronchial Coils Update
A small, easily implantable device called the Lung Volume Reduction Coil (LVRC) may play a key role in the treatment of two types of emphysema, according to a study conducted in Europe. Results of the study indicate the beneficial effects of the device persist more than a year after initial treatment

Do Antibiotics alter Fev1 readings
Following on from an earlier question. The general feeling is that you should not be on antibiotics when you have Lung function tests. I was still taking amoxicillin when I had my first and only test. My FEV1 was 73% and forced vital capacity is 112% (?) Does this mean that I am actually worse than

FEV1 v O2 sats. Can anyone help?
Can anyone help me? I went to Oxygen assessment yesterday where my blood gas levels and sats were taken, and they were all better than previously, altho heart rate was very high. The o2 blood level was actually just above the threshold of someone getting extra O2 prescribed, and I can't understand since

Hope & Relief
Hi Guys, Havent posted for a fair while, but have kept fully up to date. Life went downhill for a while, My last post was asking about Nick Hopkinson, Lung specialist at Royal Brompton. I had 2 appointments with him, after 2 very detailed LF test days, shuttles etc. The whole idea was for him to ascertain

Decline in Lung Function Study

Just discovered i have moderate copd (not mild as i was led to believe). Fev1 is 1.78 and 68% i haven't a clue what this means....
I joined a few weeks ago after being diagnosed with copd at the beginning of feb....i initially felt like i'd been given a death sentence but you good people on this site helped me to come to terms with it. Finding out it's worse than i thought has knocked me down again a bit. I'm struggling to stop

What exercise do you do? Does anyone use a Wii?
I'm diagnosed with moderate COPD with FEV1 at 62% and FVC at 63%. At the moment I manage on just Spiriva and I have a Ventolin (salbutamol) inhaler but I'm trying not to use it as I seem to get discomfort in my chest with it and want to discuss with the nurse if there is an alternative. I know I am not

Why is everyone asking 'what is your FEV1%?'...it means nothing
Imagine that in theory your ideal FVC(FEV6) should be 100 for simplicities sake then your minimum FEV1 should be 80 = 80% If your ideal should be 1000 then it would only be 8% -a far cry from the ideal FEV1! As the FEV1 percentage given is of your 'actual' FVC then if that is only 20% of what it should

Understanding COPD
Hello all, I'm new to this site and a bit puzzled as to my husband's health. He was admitted to hospital 24th Jan with breathing difficulties and was an awful colour, he's had a bad chest for years but wouldn't go to the doctors, typical male! He was diagnosed with exacerbation of COPD and was kept

I pinched this article off Facebook. As a treatment for Emphysema, I think it has a place amongst the others. I wonder if it has relevance for those with Collateral Ventilation, where other treatments are not a good option because of air leakage between the lobes in the lung through damaged tissue.
