Hydrocortisone versus Prednisone

The Flare That Keeps on Giving
Remarkably for me,
prednisone
, once I got the hang of it, has been a drug I tolerate pretty well. I almost feel like I need to start the whole tapering process all over again, as I can’t seem to shake this flare.

To take or not to take daily dose of Prednisone before or after blood work (ESR and CRP), that is the question!
I'm going for blood work tomorrow morning, to check inflammatory markers, though not blood sugars as they have always been normal, so I can have breakfast beforehand. I usually take my Pred with breakfast (3.5 mg). Should I take my Pred as usual with breakfast before the tests or wait until afterwards

Odd thyroid test results
I recently took one more step down to 3mg
Prednisone
after being on it for over 3 years and a very long tapering process with a couple of flares to slow things down. But my question is about my Thyroid test yesterday. I am on Levothyroxine and supplemented with 5mcg of T3.

A Miracle
It was a 2 year and 9 month pain journey that started at 3am in the ER where he was given 50 mg of
Prednisone
. His body was stiff, he could barely walk, lift his arms or turn over in bed at this time. He was in so much pain.

An update
I was on 2 mg of
prednisone
and had not long recovered from Covid. Somehow I managed it. I’m now reducing to 1mg and often feel wobbly and emotional. Adrenals I suspect.

Update:whats going on
I wasn't this bad on
prednisone
and I really don't want to go back on it either. It's confusing as paracetamol helps albeit temporarily. GP and rheumatologist at odds over fibromyalgia and PMR. Been a 2.5 yr health battle thus far and still no conclusion.

Prednisone reduction
Started reducing my
prednisone
f r om 30 mg a day by 2.5 every two weeks and mow at 22.5. I follow this site continuously and get the impression this is on the fast side. Talked to Rheumatologist about slowing down a b d staying at 22.5 longer. He insists I should continue and start 20 mg now.

Still unclear about cortisol suppression
Do our adrenals shut down completely on
prednisone
or do they adjust depending on our dose of
prednisone
? I have assumed that as I have lowered my
prednisone
dose, my cortisol production is slowly creeping back up. Am I wrong?

Another update on potential meds intolerance
I have been prescribed by two of my endos hydrocortisone and even
prednisone
for a couple of months as my ACTH is also low in range. Interestingly aldosterone is double the range! Normally should be low alonside low cort, so I wasn't prescribed Florinef for low aldo.

one step forward……..
But the irony for me was when she asked how many mgs of
prednisone
. I am currently on and I expected at least a tuttut at my admitting to 4mg but she actually said that level can only assist with pain level from my shoulder! So unusual to get some empathy.

Rapid Taper
My Rheumatologist wanted me to taper in 6 days from 20mg to 0
prednisone
in order to reassess me for PMR. Even though I did have elevated CRP and ESR he is not quite sure since some of my symptoms weren’t gone.

Do exacerbations follow exacerbations?
I've now been to doctor and on 5 days of
prednisone
and a week of antibiotics. Before my time in hospital, I'd never even been on an inhaler! I'm now worried that every time I get a cold it's going to become an emergency...

What to do for the stiffness.
I have tapered to 2 mg of
Prednisone
daily. Labs are all good. The stiffness is not going away. Mornings are pretty bad, as well as during the night. If I sit still for more than 30 minutes I am so stiff I can not walk normally. Most of the stiffness is in my hips, thighs, and shoulders.

Drugs make it worse?
The main problem is probably
prednisone
which I take for lupus, and which is pretty much like taking cortisol. I'm not sure what to do about it because I have auto-immune hemolytic anemia, which also makes me tired. I realize this is the wrong forum to ask about
prednisone
.
