Hi everyone I have had asthma for many years and was diagnosed with mild COPD about 2 years ago and my question is
Should I have been offered a chest X-Ray or a CAT scan etc. when I was diagnosed to see any damage done to my lungs? I was diagnosed by my asthma nurse via a spirometry and peak flow test. She said my lung age was 89 which meant I was in the COPD range. I have never seen a doctor (for diagnosis) or

Replacing neb. cups/spacers-Do you prefer certain products?
Hi guys, So I was reading up on my neb. last night (LOL I think I must have been bored!!), and it was saying to replace the reuseable medication cup every 6 months. What I was wondering is I only use my neb. when I'm sick, which is for several weeks at a time throughout the year (like this attack

Personal Best Peak flow - changes over time
I was wondering if I should change my personal best PEF on my peak flow chart etc. My asthma has been very poorly controlled over the last 15 months or so and so I never achieve anything like my personal best. I forgot to ask my consultant when I saw him earlier this week, my GP would most likely not

Peak Flow Accuracy
I know most of you on here cite your peak flows in relation to how ill you feel, but am I the only one who doesn't seem to have much correlation between symptoms and peak flow reading? Only once, a few years ago, have I had a low reading of 350 and that was when I really felt terrible, but even now when

Help understanding Peak Flow readings
Can someone help me understanding Peak Flow? When I use my peak flow meter I blow around 390. But when I was with the asthma nurse yesterday her meter read 470. Mine has a yellow strip, hers is black. I found this website (http://www.peakflow.com/top_nav/normal_values/PEFNorms.html) which said there

A silly question re peak flow readings
This may sound a silly question but if a person with normal lung function (ie not an Asthma sufferer) uses a peak flow meter before then after exercise would the reading be pretty much the same or does everyone have some degree of reduced lung function after exercise ?

Peak Flow Monitor OTC/prescription?
I was wondering if anyone was able to purchase a peak flow monitor from over the counter or does it have to come from the GP/Asthma Nurse. I called the helpline over something, and was asked about my peak flow, they were quite surprized that I wasn't monitoring it. I know amazon sells them manual &

Symbicort affecting Hyperventilation Syndrome
Hi, I've recently been diagnosed with Hyperventilation Syndrome rather than the difficult asthma it was originally thought I did have (no inhalers helpin that much, some making it worse) and am now finding that when I breathe in deeply and sharply to take my Symbicort it sets off my breathlessness,

reduced steroids
My husband has been on monthly steroid injections in an attempt to reduce oral steroids. First 3 months at 80mg, 4th month down to 60mg, and 5th month down to 40mg. As dosage is reduced so does his peak flow (down from 660 to 480). Now unwell with constant cough and production of much mucus. Can you

Asthma and Vehicle fumes
Just joined the forum. I work on a car ferry a week at a time -when I'm home my peak flow is 650 and higher, when on board it drops to 600 and below and I cough alot, get tight chested sometimes and produce loads of mucus. Seen a specialist who reckons it's the vehicle fumes on the car deck that are
