I was wondering if anyone was able to purchase a peak flow monitor from over the counter or does it have to come from the GP/Asthma Nurse. I called the helpline over something, and was asked about my peak flow, they were quite surprized that I wasn't monitoring it.
I know amazon sells them manual & digital, but I would rather I could get it on the day. Would it be worthwhile asking at a chemist to see if they sell them over the counter.
I do have a review next week, after being put on clenil 4wks ago. But the asthma nurse seems to be nonplus about peak flow.
You can buy them otc but when I worked in a pharmacy back in 2006 they were £12 for the miniwright (the one the gp gives you) so its cheaper on perscription. Might find some on ebay but Im sure your GP will give you one if you ask
Thanks waiting 7days won't be a biggie, but the nurse did make me feel like I had wasted hers & my time for doing a symptom diary. But if you don't ask you don't get.
hey you can get them from you gp or you can by them from sp services spservices.co.uk/item/Brand... or nhs chemist also AUK recommed it !
hope this helps

I went into Boots pharmacy this morning, they sell the mini wright peak flow meters for £13 otc, so I'll try with my asthma nurse.

I finally gave in and brought one yesterday, as my asthma nurse appointment has been re-scheduled for a fortnight's time rather than for next week.
I've set up a chart on excel, as that's where I have my symptom diary, so it will follow a 4wk chart. However I do have Asthma UK's peak flow diary. I like having a digital copy & a hard paper copy.
its pain having to record it but it keeps you that one step ahead of your asthma
