Hi everyone, I have recently started taking
Mepacrine
as I had to stop taking hydroxychloroquine due to macular degeneration. I was wondering if anyone else has had experience of any side affects like nauseating and giddiness and how long this is likely to last? Jo

Mepacrine (older Ani-malarial)
I cannot take Plaquinil due to a genetic, electrical heart condition (Long QT Syndrome) therefore I am on
Mepacrine
(an older much less used anti-malarial). Do you know if the properties of
Mepacrine
are effective (or thought to be) against COVID too.

I am taking
mepacrine
which is also a anti malaria drug, so wondered if this could help us. Probably clutching at straws but maybe something to look into. Much love and prayers to all and stay as safe and healthy as you possibly can. Xxx

Bronchiectasis and azathioprine info please
Medication was stepped down to just hydroxychloroquine and
mepacrine
. Will start azathioprine (imuran) if blood test comes back ok as it's not as powerful as first combination.

Heparin for APs?
I’ve been on clopidogril aspirin and
mepacrine
(was in hydroxichloroquine but reacted horrendously so was transferred into
mepacrine
which does wonders!) The consultant and I have been discussing heparin trial to see if this alleviates my headache, blurred vision and dizziness.

Treatment options -pros and cons
My love affair with MTX is rapidly decreasing but of the other options I can’t take NSAIDs after a stomach bleed on both voltarol and arthrotec (the 5 days on arthrotec before we had to stop I felt awesome though but that was long before I was this bad) and we’ve tried plaquenil, azathioprine,

Not sure if I’m doing the right thing
I’ve had lupus for 4 years now and it’s been managed by hydroxychloroquine and
mepacrine
and also setraline to boost my moods. At the beginning of summer I had a photosensitive flair, my face looked like I had been bitten by bees and my joints were very painful.

Rapid Responses to Reverse T3 Hormone in Immature Rat Sertoli Cells: Calcium Uptake and Exocytosis Mediated by Integrin
I just want to highlight a single phrase from this paper:
Until recently, rT3 was regarded as an inactive hormone, ...
I have long suspected that rT3 (reverse T3) might have some activity of importance. Although this paper concerns male rats - it does claim to identify an action. [i]PLoS

Persistent dry cough - clear chest X-ray
I'm on Hydroxychloroquine, 3g of MMF and
mepacrine
. Any ideas? Apart from the cough, a couple of styes and lip sores, I am relatively well. Drugs combo is controlling the Lupus. All I can find is this NICE article which says if dry cough stop MMF and seek specialist advice????

This annoying cough! It's been 5 weeks now.
(I take Hydroxychloroquine, MMF &
mepacrine
plus 2 antihistamines for my allergies and itchy dry skin - allergies are grass pollen, house dust & pet dander - dogs not cats). Anyone else have the mucus running down the back of the thrust feeling?

Having a stay in my PJs and resting in bed day - but doing well on the whole. Mepacrine seems to suit me.
The Hydroxychloroquine, MMF and
mepacrine
do seem a good combo for me so far. Less fatigue, headaches, wrist pain, aches and pains, no diarrhoea - bowels back to normal it seems. My lupus rash at the nape of my neck is so much better! Hardly visible below hair line and getting better above.

What to do? Wait for GP appt or visit A&E?
I have carried on with my meds - hydroxy, MMF &
mepacrine
. But should I be? Should I take some of my steroids that I have at home? Never received any advice re this kind of situation. I'd be grateful of your thoughts. Wendy

I started mepacrine today. 50mg x 3 times a week. In addition to hydroxy and MMF.
At last I have started
mepacrine
, as prescribed by Dr K in April. So that's the first point on my treatment plan ticked off.
