More pieces to the puzzle about getting a more stable supply of levodopa to the brain
Here is my latest article about how the CYP3A4 enzyme metabolises levodopa and controls its bio-availability and haf-life. It is based on a 50-day cycle (n=1) during which CYP3A4 was alternatively non-inhibited and inhibited. The results confirm that CYP3A4 powerfully inhibits levodopa and may be more

Grapefruit juice is more than a CYP3A4 inhibitor
Just found this timely article all about Grapefruit for Parkinson's, except effects on levodopa, 'cos it hasn't been tested. Conclusion : it's good for your brain, but could be dangerous, so if in doubt, don't drink it. https://www.salubrainous.com/grapefruit-for-parkinsons/

Gut microbes interfere with Parkinson's drug - but we could stop them
Levodopa is used to treat many of the symptoms experienced by the 10 million people with Parkinson’s. The drug works by passing the blood-brain barrier and releasing dopamine in the brain. But some of the drug is converted to dopamine before it gets there, which can cause adverse side effects and limit

Losing hope
Dx 2003 aged 46. until about 6 months ago i refused to be beaten. Now I am utterly beaten. For years I’ve taken madopar every 90 mins . I have always had sudden swings between off and on but was able to make them bearable – with the odd blip - with extra madopar. I worked out years ago that protein interferes

Doctors use levodopa responsiveness to diagnose, but a new report today says a specific gut bacteria prevents it from getting to the brain
I often feel I am sometimes unresponsive to levodopa. I wonder if these bacteria come and go. In addition to the most important matter of controlling symptoms, another place this matters is that we could be excluded from clinical trials for being unresponsive to levodopa when it is not because we do

Please spell it out for me.
I am new here and I am interested in cutting down my doses of prescribed C/L and trying mucuna but I can not understand how to translate the amounts. I currently take 2 tablets of generic for Sinemet 25mg carbidopa 100mg levodopa 4 times per day at about 6 a.m., noon, 6 p.m. and midnight or when I wake

Comparison of selegiline and levodopa combination therapy versus levodopa monotherapy in the treatment of Parkinson's disease: a meta-analys
S + L combination therapy is superior to L monotherapy for the improvement of clinical symptoms in PD patients. Moreover, the safety profile of S + L combination therapy is comparable with that of L monotherapy. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31175606

Mucuna pruriens
Is anyone using this herb in place of Dr. prescribed PD medication, is there any side effects, and does it act differently without Carbidopa?

Awful lot of levodopa for such a short disease duration
Anyone on 6 x Carbidopa Levodopa 25/100 mg, less than 2 years after diagnosis? My neuro is increasing my c/l from 1 tablet 3 x a day to 2 tablets 3 x a day. It seems to me like it's an awful lot of levodopa for such a short disease duration. Anyone else on such a dose under 2 years since diagnosis

Which would you rather have? Violent dyskinesia or go back to less L-dopa? Are there other options? Can we thread the needle and avoid both?
Taken from "Once Upon a Pill":
Ater this patient reduced his medication slowly and carefully over more than a year, the violent ticcing stopped and his original tremor – a small, fluttering, weak movement – reappeared, amazing him and his family. For the first time, the family members were willing
