Does Hydroxycarbamide make it take longer for you to recover from an infection?
I was diagnosed with Janus Kinase 2 (JaK2)-positive ET about a year ago but only started on oral chemotherapy with
Hydroxycarbamide
(Hydroxyurea) a few weeks ago, as my platelet count had reached levels around 900 (per nanolitre I think this means).

Mild small vessel disease and ET
I recently had an MRI and it was reported I have small vessel disease and after today’s Haematology appointment they are considering starting me on
hydroxycarbamide
because of it despite my platelets only being 812 today and I only recently turned 54 so 6 years earlier than I was expecting to start!

Polycythaemia vera, Hydroxycarbamide and possible side-effects
Hi all, I am 63 and have been on
Hydroxycarbamide
, aspirin, cetirizine and omeprazole since 2017 when I was diagnosed with PV. I am plagued with urinary infections (UTIs) sometimes as much as once a month. I have had loads of tests to see if there are local eg bladder problems and there aren’t.

HAIR LOSS!!?!!! HELP?!
I am 30 and have been Dx with ET about a year ago I also have grade two bone marrow scarring. I have been on Hydroxyurea and they recently changed the dose to 1500mg daily. Since the change I have noticed more hair loss and my hair is definitely thinner than it was. I had really thick dark hair. Now

Lousy Veins and Portacaths
Hi everyone I didn't have a great check-up yesterday - My hematocrit is refusing to budge after taking
Hydroxycarbamide
since the beginning of December. The only good news is that it hasn't risen. It now appears to be stuck at a stubborn .47. I'm PV Jak2+ so my hct is the one we need to lower.

ET diagnosis without biopsy
Hi, I have just been given a diagnosis of ET, and have to decide on treatment choice: Inferon or
Hydroxycarbamide
. I have already been taking aspirin and have high blood pressure. I am a bit in shock, trying to find out what I can.

Citalopram and hydroxy
Hi all just wanted to ask if anyone is taking hydroxy and citalopram? And if so are they best taken together or separately, morning or evening? ? I currently take aspirin, vit D, lansoprazole and have recently been prescribed bisoprolol for an eptopic heart beat and potential high BP. I saw my heomotologist

Alcohol and PV or Alcohol and Hydroxyurea
Have any of you noticed more difficulty drinking alcohol with PV - or with hydroxyurea? I don't drink a lot but in the past have enjoyed an occasional glass of wine. Lately I seem to notice, at least once or twice, feeling completely wiped out the next day. We're not talking large amounts, a glass,

Question about hydroxy and being low risk PV patient
Hello all. Wanted to know if since I am low-risk and currently on low dose asprin with phlebotomies occurring probably every 4-6 weeks, if I should stick with this treatment or start on hydroxyurea that my doctor suggested me to take? My hct is 45, platelets run from 770-860 and wbc was 13.5. From what

Newbie from Germany
Hi Pleased to find this group. I am 59 diagnosed with ET for around two years following a bone marrow aspiration test. Live in Germany my thrombocytes are 940. Currently on Aspirin. Haemotogist is aiming for me to start on hydroxyurea in the next six months. A little anxious about it’s effects. Otherwise

Upping Hydroxycarbamide dose
So, I have two questions - as I take my first 1mg of
Hydroxycarbamide
this evening! * Is it normal to have to take a higher dose
Hydroxycarbamide
after only being on it for a few weeks? * How low can my WBC & Platelets go before I start to feel REALLY ill?

Essential thrombocythia
I’m on 500 mg of hydroxyurea once a day for about 3 months. I am just feeling very fatigued the last 2 weeks. I realized it is probably the meds. I stay active and do exercise classes. I’m not liking this at all. Any vitamins etc that help.

Hydroxyurea 1000MG: Each dosage effectivness
I have been put on Hydroxyurea 500 MG Cap to lower my Platelet count, after 3 weeks my Dr. has upgraded me to 1000MG for one week before my next blood draw. After taking each daily dose of the 1000MG, how long does it take each doze to have an effect on lowering my platelet count?

The Effects of long-term hydroxyurea
I was diagnosed in 2009 with Jack ET. My numbers were too high to start with just aspirin so I’ve been on hydroxyurea. At first I was on hydroxyurea for just a few months and then on aspirin shortly after my number spiked again and I had to on Hydroxyurea . I’ve been going back-and-forth from 1000 mg

Brain fog, fatigue returns 9 months in
I was diagnosed 9 months ago with ET. Platelets just over a million. BMB sent to Mayo Clinic confirmed ET. I was 55. I was smoking at the time. Prior to diagnosis, I was having some serious symptoms. Vertigo (dizzy, imbalance, vision problems, fatigue, infamous "brain fog"). Had brain scan with
