Symptoms of pre-eclampsia
The most common symptoms are raised blood pressure and protein in the urine (proteinuria) which is why your blood pressure and urine are always tested at your antenatal appointments. The reason for a rise in blood pressure and protein leaking into your urine is because of changes to your blood vessels

How much information is too much?
Some people think having too much information can scare pregnant women and their partners. How much information do you think pregnant women need about pre-eclampsia? Does it help to know how serious pre-eclampsia can be (i.e. it can cause the death of mum and baby) or is that too alarming?

Out-of-hours doctor has just said that my son's asthma is ""a little brittle"" - help!
Have just gotten back from the out-of-hours GP (my son's usual timing for a trip!). His asthma's gone everso slightly out of control since the hayfever season has kicked in. I've been back to the GP and the resp nurse in the last couple of weeks and he's started in flixonase nasal spray. This has helped

daughter with atypical asthma?
Can anyone relate please? My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with asthma at 6 months old after a bad case of chicken pox. Her doctor at the time said she may have internal spots and scarring on the lungs (does this sound right?) Her symptoms became worse as she got older, and she has been under

No one else in the family has it and its been a real steep learning curve. Aswell as asthma he has hayfever( which i think

Is this normal?
My 10 yr old dd was seen by the doctor for a chest infection last friday. She's completed her amoxicillin and he'd given us the option of either taking her seretide 50 up to 3 puffs twice a day or to give four hourly ventolin. We went with the ventolin which she is still taking 4 hourly. On Monday

Advise on daily Pred
Hi have been keeping up with everyones news but not posted in a while. I have a 10 year old son who has difficult to manage to Asthma, thankfully he responds well to nebs and pred when in hospital and has only needed to be admitted to HDU once. We seem to be on a 4 to 6 weekly cycle of needing pred

Wheezy cough in a non-wheezing asthmatic child
My daughter, 11, is heading for an exacerbation in her asthma. You know, you can just tell?! She usually takes 2 puffs clenil 50, and 2 puffs of serevent morning and night though a volumatic spacer. Normally on this dose her athma is well controlled and we have no problems. A couple of weeks ago

Not sure how to proceed anymore
I have 4 year old twins and one of them has severe/difficult/brittle (every hospital has different names for it) asthma. She was diagnosed at 7 months old and she is unfortunately getting worse. She was admitted 14 times last year and that doesn't even begin to detail the number of times we have dealt

What are my exacerbation triggers? Actichlor Bleach???
I started work in the operating theatres of an NHS hospital just over a year ago. I take Seritide 250 2 times a day 2 puffs, Salbutamol PRN and Montelukast at night. I have noticed in July last year I was starting to take my Salbutamol more often. Since then had a few exacerbations and prescribed Prednisolone

Found out today after a bit of research that my Slophyllin could be making my MD and tinnitus worse as Slophyllin is related to caffeine and caffeine is not good for MD and tinnitus and then rang the asthma nurse on here and we had a lovely chat about meds. I need the slophyllin for my Asthma and had

How to cheat at peak flow?
Ok, this may seem the most ridiculous of posts but is really quite important! How do you get a higher score on the peak flow without physically nudging or poking it (or anything that a pe teacher could pick up on). I would never use this at clinic etc. but i've currently been banned from pe because
