I had smoked for 40 years and totally enjoyed it, but when the Doctor told me I had emphysema starting to get worse I quit smoking asap.
cannot understand how a person could continue to smoke with that illness unless your tired of life. I'm not ready to go so I am working on controlling it, and believe me I did enjoy my smokes. Some day when the end is very close I am going to smoke a couple for old times sake,

Still Hopeful
I am 58 and was diagnosed with
emphysema
10 years ago. The diagnosis was an accident as they saw lung scarring from pneumonia, did a lung biopsy and said I did not have lung cancer but they found a small spot of
emphysema
. I quit smoking and try to stay positive and active.

What was read out at EightyPlus's funeral.
His cancer remained dormant but he was later diagnosed with COPD and
Emphysema
and although he had to be on oxygen he still got out on his mobility scooter. Eventually though,he had to give this up on orders from 'Judy' because he thought he was on a motorbike and wouldn't slow down.

Progression of Emphysema.
Why does
Emphysema
progress even if you stop smoking? I know the lung volume declines with age just like every other part of the body but why does
Emphysema
progress if you don't do anything to agitate it?

My Dad suffered for many years with
emphysema
and since childhood had been profoundly deaf. Just before Easter 1979 he became very ill. Because of his deafness and the fact he couldn't walk more than a few yards, my brother drove him to the Doctors.

Re wiring
It will be an expensive job but my main concern is the disruption and mess involved as I have
emphysema
. Luckily my son and daughter live with me and will do most of the preparation and restoration work. My main concern is how the dust will affect my breathing .
