A New - Old Drug That Is Making a Major Difference for Me
I have long been convinced that there are nuggets of gold buried in the massive accumulation of 40 years of research that has built up since Ldopa took the stage. Common sense tells me that it is not possible for such a huge amount of data spread over several disciplines to build up without overlooking

For the baby boomers-Do you think recreational drug use in the 60s.70s contributed to PD?
During the late 1970s, a controversial program sponsored by the US government sprayed paraquat on marijuana fields in Mexico.Since much of this marijuana was subsequently smoked by Americans, the US government's "Paraquat Pot" program stirred much debate. Perhaps in an attempt to deter people from using

Diabetes drug that may slow Parkinson's
This article was featured in today's paper. It says that a drug used in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes is being tried on early stage Parkinson's patients. It appears that research has shown that it appears to slow down the loss of brain cells that produce dopamine. This drug also affects levels of

Stem cells - a promising avenue for the future

??I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike??
The Spirit of Freddy Mercury must have been singing in the ear of Cleveland Clinic biomedical engineer, Jay Alberts, PhD. During Tandem ride across Iowa, Dr. Alberts pedaled the lead position on a tandem bicycle with a woman with Parkinson's disease. Before the ride, the woman was suffering from hand

Imagine for a moment
Imagine for a moment that you are under fifty, healthy, vital and one day your thumb starts to twitch. It's annoying but tolerable, It only twitches when your hands are completely at rest so you ignore it.Six months later your little finger starts to twitch too. Suddenly your hand seems to have a mind

Foods that help the brain produce Dopamine
It is now nearly one year since my much loved cousin lost her long, brave fight with Parkinsons and most of what I have learned comes from being with her during this time. She always said that eating broad beans helped the brain to increase dopamine levels. Luckily we both liked them. This started

stopping dopamine agonist to start taking sinamet, how long to give in between?
I have been taking Pramipexole for a week and a half, before that Requip xl, 6mg for a year. I have to completely stop taking Prami for a week before starting Sinamet. This is going to be hard as its technically going "cold turkey". Is there anything I can do to clear Prami from my system faster

The hidden shame of drug-affected behaviors resulting from Dopamine agonists.
Dopamine agonists such as Requip and Mirapex can cause Obsessive Compulsive and addictive like symptoms. Documented research has acknowledged the facts. The problem is the data is skewed simply because there are so many unreported cases. The shame and embarrassment prevents PD patients from reporting
