What do MAO-b Inhibitors do for us that no other type of Pd medication can do?
MAO-b inhibitors help to increase the available
dopamine
in the brain, without having to take levodopa, which the brain converts into
dopamine
. Levodopa medications can cause serious side effects, which can, later on, be worse that the Pd.

Transplanted brain neurons appear to remain healthy for up to 14 years
Their transplanted
dopamine
neurons appeared healthy and showed no signs of Parkinson's disease-associated deterioration. The findings provide further support for stem cells as a source for transplant-ready
dopamine
neurons, the study authors said.

Does Valerian help with RLS?
I have tried most remedies over the years but avoided the heavy duty drugs such as the
dopamine
based drugs as, from the comments on this site, whilst providing relief for a period of time they seem eventually to lead to severe augmentation problems and a drug merry-go-round.

Thoughts on my 85th birthday
They included my experiment in balancing serotonin and
dopamine
but also balancing joy and depression, solitude and loneliness, and. finally, the meaning of life per Victor Frankl. Too much to detail here, but see http://parkinsonsand5htp.blogspot.com/2014/05/thoughts-on-my-85th-birthday.html

The "miracle" of the OTC serotonin booster 5-HTP and my non-motor Parkinson's symptom's
Recent research suggests that the Parkinson's medical community has been focusing too much on
dopamine
and that more attention should be paid to the role of serotonin. I explore all of this in today's blog post. For more, see bit.ly/1mKVSh7

RLS seems to be worst when light is low in the evenings, at cinema, in bed etc.
As I understand it, RLS is linked with low levels of
dopamine
, and
dopamine
levels fall as melatonin levels rise when light levels are low (in the evening or the cinema etc). I ...

Why does RLS disappear upon standing.? I don't have clue. Believe it or not ;)
I read some older articles about how epinephrine and norepinephrine levels rise (somewhat dramatically) but NOT
dopamine
when we go from a supine position to a standing one. I have no idea if this is why our RLS is relieved upon standing.

Thinking of coming off of dopamine agonists and seeing what my rls is like. Anyone do withdrawal with the help of zopiclone or other meds? X
However the augmentation has become a daytime problem and I'm thinking of coming off
dopamine
drugs completely and seeing what my original symptoms were like. I'm trying acupuncture for RLS at the same time. Anyone have any advice on how I can do this? Best wishes everyone xx

For you Gwenlou: Which comes first, Parkinson's or constipation? RLS or constipation?
Once absorbed in large quantities, these toxic substances can damage
dopamine
-producing cells, putting an individual at greater risk for Parkinson's.

Which one should I choose?
The doctor's next suggestions are sinimet (which I don't want to do because I had bad experiences with the other
dopamine
agonists), carbamazepine, propranolol, or oxycodone. Anyone have any experience with any of them? Have any thoughts, feelings, suggestions, or recommendations?

It's a real miracle! I can't believe I'm not having to take drugs anymore for RLS.
I think that
dopamine
agonists are good but should only be taken short term when symptoms are chronic.

Macuna Pruriens - people were asking about this herb and this is info of the web - but it is an interesting article.
Dopamine
is artificially elevated in response chemicals contained in alcohol, cigarettes, cocaine, crystal meth and heroin as well as from overeating. Excessive exposure to
dopamine
results in
dopamine
receptors not working properly.
