Update after chemo and a wonderful meetup
Dondee just finished 6rounds of
Docetaxel
chemo and while it has helped in shrinking the lymph nodes (3 left), his bone mets unfortunately increased in number and its now scattered along the ribs, sternum, pelvis and spine đ. Good thing though, there are still no visceral mets.

Chemo v/s Zytiga ?
Since his PSA is almost 0 and blood work has improved, doctors have given us 2 options of Chemo -
Docetaxel
(every 3 weeks, 6 cycles) and Zytiga (Abiretarone). However my MO strongly advises Chemo first, considering dads age (53 yrs) and widespread mets.

Oral docetaxel
Modra Pharmaceuticals is working on an oral version of
docetaxel
, the main drug used in chemotherapy for prostate and a number of other cancers. A patient will take two pills on one day, wait a week, then do it again, for however many weeks are prescribed. It can be done at home.

PSA down further and starting Docetaxel today
Just started my
docetaxel
today plus zometa and Lucrin ( ADT). Feeling a bit 'hype' after the treatment. Could be the dexamethasone. Managed to get some rest and feeling fine. Oncologist has asked me to stop the Zytiga when I am going thru the
docetaxel
treatment.

Post Chemo Blues
I finished my 6 rounds of
docetaxel
a little over 3 weeks ago and set to have MRI and bone scans tomorrow, but I've been in a funk since the last infusion.

Xtandi while on Chemo is working Well
Began my 3rd round of chemo 3 weeks ago with same combo of
Docetaxel
/Carboplatin as the prior 12 infusions. This time Med Onc suggested we continue Xtandi, which had been used on a rechallenge basis after the prior 2 rounds of chemo, but NEVER during chemo. Results were impressive.

Chemo done after 4 infusions
It's been a rough go on
Docetaxel
and Carboplatin. Ended up in the hospital twice after infusions, pneumonia and then a high fever/rash. Now new rash all over is terrible, so Dr. decided to give me a break after 4 infusions and call it quits for the time being.

Docetaxel treatment update
I thought it would be interesting to share results from my first 5 sessions of chemo and maybe get some thoughts. Cycle 1, 2, 4 and 5 have been mainly low impact from side effects, fatigue is always tough through days 3-7 but after a week the energy comes back. I've hopefully mitigated any neuropathy

Docetaxel...one down...advice wanted on âchilling outâ
My dadâs PSA recently went up from around 4 to around 6, so the local oncologist told us to put a lung surgery on the back burner and to start chemo, which we did today. My dad is 86 and had successful chemo for non-Hodgkins lymphoma several years ago. With this chemo, I think heâs a bit baffled that

Docetaxel without ADT?
It is my understanding that
docetaxel
primarily affects cells with high metabolism. ADT reduces this mitotic activity. It sounds like ADT should not be given with
docetaxel
to increase the kill effect on the cancer cells. Does anyone know anything about this?

First Chemo - Advice/Suggestions
We finally made the choice to first try Chemo (
Docetaxel
) over Zytiga. The first cycle begins the day after.
Some important points I have gathered via the forum are:
1) To ice the hands and feet, have ice chips if possible 2) Take Claritin on the day of Chemo and a few days after?

Enzalutamide and docetaxel together?
Just wondering if anyone out there has done these two treatments together? And if so, what were the side effects and did you have any favorable results? Thanks much!!
