New Discovery for MPN's
“[MSK physician-scientist] Charles Sawyers showed that a second-generation drug,
dasatinib
, worked in CML patients who failed imatinib because
dasatinib
binds to the target differently,” Dr. Levine says.

Chemo makes resistant cancer stem cells???
Curiously to both "mammary carcinoma" and Imatinib relapsed CML patients,
Dasatinib
, a Src tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has shown efficacy.
Dasatinib
has been used experimentally in lysing senescent cells in conjunction with Quercetin in mouse studies. Recently posted.

Has anyone had any experience of Afatinib?
In order to support a submission to the Scottish medicines consortium (SMC) for the availability of Afatinib (Gilotrif) which is a targeted (biological) therapy it would be helpful to hear from anyone that may have experience of it either through your Consultant or as part of a clinical trial

Just a quick update
I have just had my latest scan results, much earlier than expected. My November scan showed progression of the main tumour. It had gone from 11cms to collapsed and immeasurable in 8 months, this had remained so for another year. Then November showed it was 2cms x 3mm. We didn't know how long it had taken

Not the news I wanted to hear :((
Just returned from my oncology appointment, the one I have been waiting for to get the results of my latest CT scan. Not the best of news....I have some tumour progression. I knew It would happen eventually and did expect it as I've been coughing for the last 3 weeks but still it was a shock. I've been

Update from lung cancer study day and other things :)
Not written a post myself for a while although I always try to answer other posts and give some hope to others in a similar position to myself. I have had a very busy few weeks since coming back from the USA. We now have our support group up and running, our first 'official' meeting in 26th October

My partner was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (nsclc) in June 2009. He has had Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy & Tarceva. It has now spread to the spleen & he goes for a bone scan next week as they think it has also spread to his bones. He started taking the new unlicensed drug Afatinib yesterday & so

Does anyone know anybody who has been offered a new drug called Afatinib? My partner has been offered this as Tarceva has stopped working.
