Colestyramine

My doctor put me on colestyramine a powder I mix in juice. It definitely helped me.

Ive been prescribed Colestyramine to try and see what happens, they should be delivered on Monday. Today, i feel sicker then usual and struggling to eat. When people have bad days and feel quite sick, what are people's go to thing to try?

I try to eat as little salt and I dare (considering the body needs SOME to survive) and I take 2 x Colestyramine powders in water per day. I have been told to reduce my fluid intake, such as water/cups of tea etc. and reduce it to 1.5 litres per day. I try but I do get very thirsty!

I'm taking one sachet per day for PBC itching, as I have to take various tablets i can only drink the mixture first thing in morning. My question is how long after can I drink tea and breakfast after taking colestyramine.Thanks

I have this condition and take colestyramine daily which controls it well. I recently asked my GP to have my fat soluble vitamins checked (A,D and K, I believe) in a blood test as this has not been checked in a long time. The email! came back saying there was no indication for this.

This happened last week and he started me on Colestyramine 4 g and after first dose I noticed such a difference ! Having ruled out other causes for my IBSd through dietary changes , colonoscopy ,FIT testing etc I can’t believe it’s taken this long for BAM to be identified as the cause.

My total cholesterol level has shot up to 6.39. My internist wants me on a statin (Atorvastatin) with it's many negative side effects. I've been researching other cholesterol lowering medication options and many sites (including the Mayo Clinic) list bile acid sequestrants - including Cholestyramine

Hello. Has anyone experienced any side effects with Cholestyramine? Been told its a 14 month wait to see the gastroenterologist and doctors have done basic tests which came back negative except the calprotectin test which was raised. I have asked to try cholestyramine. Many thanks

from Dr Jones' book - Cholestyramine (Questran) is the first line treatment for the itching. If this doesn't work, then taking Rifampicin is the next line of therapy. My husband has had explosive diarrhea since mid February. After blood tests, stool samples, colonoscopy, and more stool samples, they are not able to determine what is causing the diarrhea. The doctor has prescribed Cholestyramine. Has anyone had experience with this medication and did it help?

My cholesterol has gone to very good this month as I have just been prescribed Colestyramine for Bile Acid Malabsorption which has caused me problems for years. Now I have chest pains which I thought was indigestion. Mainly at night and the pain wakes me.

The patient info leaflet (PIL) only gives the warning about other drugs, so 1 hour min after other drugs before taking Colestyramine, and wait 4 to 5 hours (not sure why two options) after taking Colestyramine before getting back on other drugs.

Well I did the endoscopy and colonoscopy last week. Am happy that they found nothing new just a suggestion for another in 10 years…Yea So the Gastroenterologist suggested Cholestyramine. They also want me to try colestyramine 4 daily. For bile salts. I also have low folate for 2 years that I have had 2 round of folate for 3 months I'm now on for a year. In all this time I have tried going back to work twice at night as my gut is less active over night.
