[CASE-STUDY] Bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss with Sweet syndrome: A case report.

THIS ARTICLE INCORRECTLY STATES THAT SWEET'S SYNDROME (SS) IS AUTOIMMUNE. SS IS AUTOINFLAMMATORY. IT ALSO STATES THAT IT'S IDIOPATHIC (UNKNOWN CAUSE). THIS IS ONLY TRUE IN APPROX. 50% OF CASES.

This is a case of a 43-year-old woman with bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss that occurred at the same time as the diagnosis of SS. The patient was immediately started on systemic steroids and intra-tympanic steroid injection. After 3 months, she showed complete recovery of hearing.

Delayed treatment could potentially result in permanent hearing loss.

"..when clinical evidence indicates SS, clinicians should not hesitate to perform a hearing test as soon as possible, regardless of symptoms. In addition, patients with SS should be fully warned about the possibility of bilateral hearing loss, and advised to adhere to a periodic examination by an otolaryngologist, even when symptoms are not present." journals.lww.com/md-journal...

Hi Shell, I had a full morning of complete deafness. Could this be related to my ss? I didn't link it as I wasn't aware.

Hi CGWestview,

Possibly, but it's more likely to be something else, e.g. ear infection.
