SIT on the Couch !!!!!

Hello to everyone and an apology for being a whole day late with this. Nearly twom dyas !

Happy October.!

Take a seat, sip a drink and let's chat.

Lots going on for me this week and a big day, Saturday, for Mr OF and I, as he has some further tests !

I need right now to be on top of things, physically and mentally... but sometimes it is really hard to stick to normal routines !

Annieapple 's posts have helped fuel an idea I have had for a while; what do we do, when illness, injury, incapacity, life issues or anything else, get in the way and make things hard. There may be balance issues, there may be injury to a lower limb problems with a prosthetic, ( read some of PeggySusi 's posts about her leg that made strange noises!!! ) , Yes, any number of reasons...

If we are well and truly, on the Couch... but wanting to keep our body strong, our stamina levels high and help keep our mind set positive what do we do?

Simply, we do, what we are able to...

So, some ideas for sitting On the Couch Exercise !

Cardiovascular and flexibility exercise, when we are chair bound, really can impact. Workout while you watch TV!

I often do hand and arm exercises when sitting, and am a real ankle rotator too... happy toes and sad toes too !

But we need more:

So, rather than ramble on here, I am going to post a few links... simply because they have photographs which can help,

I am, as many folk know, a huge fan of Body fit with Amy and have used the exercises she demonstrates in many situations... Short workouts, standing exercises only and chair exercises too !

There are a whole load on her site.... just type in and scroll around

Our own NHS

nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/s...

and

youtube.com/playlist?list=P...

and

bluecrossnc.com/blog/health...

Some on this link are slightly more tricky...

musclesquad.com/blogs/worko...

Okay... I think there are a few great ideas there...but on the site here already, if you take a look you will find some others.

The Tibetan Rites, on this forum, have a seated version too,, which I use, and am using now, CBDB and I are fans of the Rites! Do take a look!

Okay.... enough from me.

Your turn to share, have you, been on the Couch , literally have you found ways to stay strong... or do you just accept that you are unable to move and wait to feel better or to heal...?

Pleas share any ideas you have or any tips you have, for staying fit, whilst incapacitated!

Looking forward to seeing who may pop in and to hear your thoughts... !

Hello again Floss, sadly lots of us seem to be having issues that lead to breaks in our ability to exercise in our chosen way.. I think the word Flex is possibly more important than strength.. we need to be flexible in our thinking about how to stay strong. Thank you for all your helpful suggestions.. as you say, you just have to do what you are able to do.

Best advice, I think is just move.. do something.. either active or creative if possible. For me, if I can’t run, at least walk the dog, and if not that, gardening, cleaning, decorating.. it’s much easier to lose the ability to move than it is to regain it.

Having said that, I don’t always take my own advice.. I’m very good at spending time reading, and wasting time scrolling..😳

I hope the tests will be useful and facilitate some help for Mr OF.. good luck, and stay strong 🤗x

Thank you so much for this really helpful reply... It has yet again, as many of your posts and replies do, given me pause for thought.

Flex and flexibility...in line with my three As. Acknowledge, Accept and Adapt... You are right,... many, many of us have thongs going on right now and are in some instances, really struggling to keep on top of things.

Those things that you list that we can do are so important. and the mundane household chores do impact! It is easier to just stop and solidify and does take more effort to as you say, just move... and do something. !

Lots to take in for folk here. and I do hope some of our C25K friends pop across, and read your reply! We have a lot struggling with niggles and twinges and all manner of issues whcih would benefit so much from some of the exercises here on the forum.

Thank You x

so true so true. Sitting on the couch might not be about sitting on the couch. And what PeggySusi said about flex being so important as part of strength & flex … I feel is spot on.

Some time ago, a few workout buddies were doing a rope skipping challenge. Something completely beyond me, and I thought I’d never be able to do this with my health-challenged and heavy body.

But I recently came across “Rope Flow”, which seems an impact free version of getting a fluidity and mobility for your upper body, and a very gentle weight-shifting workout for your lower body.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I can see myself doing this and it’s on my to do list. But the key thing about finding this practice is that I realised that working with a skipping rope can be playful and amended to suit one needs.

And that probably goes for many S&F practices.

I’ll put the video here so you can see what it’s like, and at some point soon I’ll be reporting back how following this session felt.

Hi! Hope you are all feeling better. I'm continuing with my wall pilates challenge, day 22 of 28 today. I'm finding it good! The workouts are short... The longest was 36 minutes but most are 12 - 20ish, so it makes it easy to fit in. I thought last week that my posture was improving... Would be very happy with that benefit

That sounds great. I’ve been tempted by a Pilates wall challenge before, but haven’t made the jump yet. Which one are you doing again? ( I’ve been tempted by this free one by Rachael’s Fit Pilates youtube.com/playlist?list=P... )

Yes, that's the one I did! I have just finished the 28 days, and she has another 14 day one that I'm thinking of starting next!
