I finished with my last training plan for my rower, and I usually need a plan to keep me going. But I’m having some fun rowing to music, and trying out some new apps and new virtual worlds to row through.
This mornings row was a 30 min paddle through the canals of Amsterdam. I’m using the app called BitGym, which connects to my Concept2 rowing machine, and picks up the strokes/min (SPM), even if it does not record speed / pace. But that’s ok. It still lets me paddle at my own personal stroke-rate-pace through some virtual worlds.
Some are on roads (for indoor bikers), some on trails (for treadmill runners), snowy slopes (ski-ergs) and some are on waterways (for indoor rowers). The video picks up the speed from my rower.
It was really a lovely row, and while you row through the canal, informative text comes up about interesting facts of the buildings or sights on the way.
It has several routes in the free version, but many more behind a paywall. But the free versions will keep me busy for a while.
I run this app on AppleTV, so I have a big screen. And my Concept2 airbag also allows me to experience “the wind in my hair”, whilst rowing through a summery Amsterdam, whilst behind my screen my windows are showing me a gloomy, wet UK dawn.
Fab!
Happy rowing, everyone!
