Thinking about an exercise, even without actually doing it, was shown to increase muscle strength.
I'm sure there were specific ways of doing it and visualising it, so I'm sure it's not as easy as sitting on the couch thinking about that exercise that you hate doing, but I just found it amazing anyway and thought someone else might too.
