All we 'K-NEED ' is .... RE POST

*****Lots of posts about sore knees at the moment, so I am re posting this in pinned posts...

Not sure if some folk are on treadmills or running, as I am in less open spaces, or even running in circles inside, but here are some links here which may help ****

Flossx

I am so sorry the post is late...I really do 'kneed' to sort it!

Okay enough!

I have been whizzing around like a small whirlwind this week and achieving little... I have a twinging, toe/foot, and am exercising that area a lot..

How are your exercises coming along... I am enjoying my foot and ankle ones particularly at the moment and hoping the foot improves. I am running, but only because there is no real pain. We never run through pain, or mask it by the use of painkillers.

I am also doing a lot of hefty working out in my garden...( emptied and moved a garden shed yesterday) ... so I feel my stretching, lifting, digging, fetching and carrying, is all contributing to my strength and stamina.

Anyway folks... here I am again and this week the exercises focus on our knees...and boy, do we have issues with these!

I , as many of us, have suffered with problem knees... I had a new pair of trainers once... my Tigger Trainers... which caused a real issue...over bouncing!!!! They were relegated very quicky for indoor cross trainer work... but seriously, our knees take so much hammer as we run... we do need to take care of them!

Firstly.. some great info re-our knees...and one or two myths busted...

runnersworld.com/health-inj...

But.. do remember, if you have diagnosed medical issues with your knees, ( e.g. Arthritis) , to get expert advice if you do have knee pain...:)

Now...some links to some useful exercises.

womensrunning.com/2015/04/h...

and these...

youtu.be/5nJi7HhJJnE

...and the ones which a great many of us use regularly, me included. Easy to do and effective most of the time !

nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k...

Now, I am not suggesting you do all of these; search around and find the ones you feel would be most useful to you, and that you are comfortable doing, also. Incorporate them into your regular exercise routine, which if you have not already got, I am hoping you are forming.

Exercise to support your running is essential, but does not have to be overly time consuming or expensive. Just try to get into the habit of making it part of your running programme. It can be tricky with all that life throws at us, but will pay dividends.

Let me know what you think ?

Floss x

PS

The photo is me! My knees...running on the beach, not long after the all clear from my consultant, after a long spell on the IC waiting for MRI results on, said knees...

Check it out ! Proof that even after injury....the runs are still there:)

Great advice from you Floss, photograph of your legs, good posture and correct way of running, which reminds me to wish everyone who is running in The Great South Run the very best of luck, a special mention to Dexy5 and UpTheStanley.

Thank you for the exercises. Just what I need to keep my knee from twinging and reminding me that I have to look after it. 😊

That is great... listening to our body but remembering too, to keep doing the exercise whatever:)

Funnily since I’ve been running my knee has got a lot better but I do know I have to look after it. It’s tricky remembering to do the exercises but I do try. 🏃🏻‍♀️

I do know what you mean... when I get a twinge... I think uh oh,I have let things slide ! x

Exactly!! 🥴

One of the worst things for me, is when I do everything right and I still get an issue!

I often have no idea why !0

Knittingrunner profile image
Knittingrunner in reply to Oldfloss

I usually know why. It’s not doing the exercise or falling over or cycling uphill! They are my favourites!! Doesn’t stop me doing any of those things except maybe cycling uphill. The falling over is usually in bogs whilst trekking 😂

Gotta love the knee work... I’m now around 15 months pain free after 30 years of very dodgy knees... and I run too, bonus!

Another brilliant post, OldFloss. 👍🎉 I especially love the YouTube video - could it possibly be the “no squats or lunges” tag line? 🤔🤣 And as for the view of your knees: 😮👏🏼 Superb! Ta very much all around.

Thanks you.... I use Body fit with Amy a lot for my exercise routines...she does a lot of low impact work..which I enjoy!

My knees, are, as my consultant said..lovely ! Ha ha !!!

Thanks for the recommended Body Fit with Amy, just tried 2 beginners low impact workouts and thought they were great.

I am so pleased...I have used her exercises a lot.. you ca find ones to suit your individual needs.. e.g.I have difficulty doing lying down exercises etc after a neck injury in a car crash!

I am glad they are useful!

Hmm. I still have knee pain at the moment. although its better than it was. I'm another who exercises when in pain rather than consistently. Will take a look a the video links above as I find it much easier to follow than a list of exercises. In truth though, I'm still at 'feet' in this series 🤣 - just about to add a new link to that first post for a fab rehab routine I've been using for the last week :)

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator in reply to linda9389

Thanks for that link! I find some of the video links really helpful to follow. I'm back on feet and toes..still got a twinge!!

Hope the knee settles!

Good luck with your toes, pesky things toes! Think my knee will be ok if I'm kind to it. Everything just needs loosening up and getting back in line. Last week's sports massage definitely helped and I have another a week tomorrow. Looking forward to a run tomorrow but will be on a go slow 😍

I'll be out too..just a slow and steady though too..enjoy your run🙂

Fantastic article. I just love the old "you'll ruin your knees" brigade! 🙄🤣

As my consultant told me... I have great knees! :) Ha ha !!

You sure do! 👍🏻😁😘

Great range of exercises floss. Thanks. My own knee issue can be caused by ITB. So clams and side leg lifts are good for that. I do knee slides on the bed if the knee is very tight. Wall Squats are working nicely for strengthening quads these days.

Great post and so useful for people I know who say their knees are knackered.

As for me, I still haven't done any strength and flex exercises, so I'm off to the total tone class at my local gym tonight to, hopefully, kick start the routine! 🤞

All done, but not done in! Really enjoyed the total tone class, even the press ups! I also met some ladies who run 10k every week and invited me to join them. A good night 😁

I know this is an old thread, but can I just reply here to show my thanks and gratitude to you for sharing the youtube link (in your post) for the Low Impact Legs Workout -

I have always had iffy knees and have had to recently resort to step-ups instead of box-jumps to lower the impact, also reducing my weights when strength training with deadlifts, squats and thrusters.

...after following this workout in the past week (I have done it 3 times so far) I have to say I am already feeling an improvement! OK, not quite ready for the jumpy, plyometric moves just yet, but I have not had that niggling ache that would haunt me on my rest days.

So - THANK YOU

...and to other folks out there with dodgy knees - give this simple workout a try, it's only 16 minutes but seems to work for me!
