Morning, I am 52, need to lose at least one and a half stone, in menopause and working full time, husband made redundant nearly 5 years ago when he was 59 not working and not likely to go back, Son at university, so currently the only one having to get up in the morning. Some days I am totally fatigued before I start, hormones ! Anyway I started exercising around 3 months ago, have just completed week 6 run 2 of the couch to 5 k. I also try to swim and walk as much as I can and I have to say the exercise is helping. I'm not getting such terrible hunger pains, sleeping better and feeling happier - so based on my experience I would say please give exercise a go. I have never found gym or running fun and really have to make an effort some days to drag myself there but it does help.
Good luck, keep posting I'll watch out for how you are doing
Morning Thankyou for replying ..
Reading your reply I am thinking ..gosh I could never be that fit .....but I guess you felt like that too at one point.
I don't really understand this menopause business...I really never know if it is me getting worse anxiety wise...or if it is caused by this 'change'....
I shall try to find an exercise start up plan today though..and will get back to you
How long does this menopause last ? (like I said I really don't have anyone to talk to about such things so I am a bit naeive about it all)
I am really not very fit but listening to the podcasts in the C25K app is very motivating. To be honest I have always had a hormone imbalance (my son has one too) so my experience may not be common. I noticed a change when I was 39 in that I started to get nosebleeds and migraines again, something I suffered badly with during puberty. I was tested at that point and told that I was peri menopausal. So its 13 years and still going, however I don't think that's common. I have mood swings, hot flushes, times i just want to cry and hide away. Feel exhausted etc, etc. You really are not alone it's a roller coaster ride. My advice is be gentle on yourself if you are feeling rubbish, watch what you are eating, sugary foods seem to make it worse as well as add the pounds. Get enough sleep, and exercise, if for you that's going for a walk then do it, getting out is really important. If you don't have anyone to go with and don't want to go alone how about taking someones dog for a walk regularly (there is a website you can join that matches you up with a dog locally of someone who can't walk there dog for whatever reason) My dog and I have really long chats and walks together, he's the best listener when I'm feeling low. Take good care of you
Sounds like you need some support to lose weight. Try a slimming club. I have used Slimming World since January and have lost 2 stone. I needed to do it for my general health but the class and support really helped. Don't think I could have done it by myself. I do minimal exercise but that will help too. Everyone is different.
I have lost 11st in 4yrs 6st with the help of my doctor and 5st with Slimming world I found they were so supportive I couldn't wait to go every week I advise you to try them.
I too am menopausal and lost just over a stone in 12 months. I used a fitness app and entered goal weight and daily food intake according to the goal set. I also entered details of exercise and fitness, mostly walking but also started a weekly beginner's yoga class which I really enjoy. To be honest I didn't think yoga would be for me, but with easier options, I can see improving flexibility and, as I also suffer from arthritis, improved pain management. I've not long increased to a Pilates class and gradually increased my activity levels as I found I was enjoying this. Made new friends and feel much less tired. Still have the hot flushes though 😂
You are all inspirational to me. I'm 49 and had a full hysterectomy in 2012 and have been suffering with slow weight gain and hot flushes since then. Nothing I've done works to get the weight off.
I'm on W2 of c25k and I think I'm going to start doing the strength and flex too to tone up. I also swim daily in the sea (weather allowing, I'm not mental!) which should help general fitness and toning I think.
I will look at doing a yoga or fitness clsss too.
Keep it up everyone!
